Another major reason why we lost

    36 Inside 50s!!

Certainly Hall was down on form on the weekend, but if we don't give our forwards a decent chance, we will struggle to kick a winning score.

A good point Bloods. We simply didn't give ourselves enough chances. In the end the Eagles benefited from dodgy umpiring and bad mistakes by applying more pressure I50.

Suspected that, but someone mentioned they only had 9 more. If that's right that surprises me.

Our middle was, probably not smashed but pretty soundly beaten, if they had a slightly more functional forward line the margin would've no doubt been more. Our defence held up pretty well in general.

Also disappointing in that Jolly soundly outtapped their rucks but our boys just couldn't make the most of that advantage. Middle needs to really step up this week.

For those with the gift of the print stats, how many Rebound 50s and clearances did we have?

They had 45 I50s. I think they must have had very few in the third qtr as they had a heap in at least two of the other three.

We had 36 R50s and they had 25.

Judd, Cousins and Kerr had 21 I50s between them. The rest of their team were a bit down.

We had 5 each from Goodes, Ablett, and Buchanan, plus 4 from O'Keefe.

On R50s, Crouch and Kennelly had 5 each, while Goodes and Kirk had 4 each.

On clearances, it was 40 each (11-9 to them in the centre).
Kirk had 7, Goodes 5, and Williams and Buchanan 4 each.

For them, Kerr had 9, Judd and Cousins 6 each, Wirripunda 5.

Shows how dominant and important those first three were for WC.

BTW - Goodes' and Williams' games have been maligned in part, however their stats show up pretty well across the board.

They also attracted 9 more Free kicks than us. Including a brand new one invented on the night.

              Very interesting stats.

Probably shows that if we had got the ball into the forward 50 another 4 times we would have won the game, umpiring aside.

Other interesting stat is that although Judd, Kerr & Cousins had plenty of the ball our pressure and game plan meant they did not hurt us as much as they would normally with that weight of ball. Our midfield has received a bit of critisisim, but along with Jolly & Ball they almost managed to pull it off while Kerr, Judd & Cousins all played to their potential. How West Coast must be crying out for a Gherig, Hall or Richo in their forward line.

Stats aside, I think the first ten minutes hurt us really badly. Despite the scoreboard, we were playing catch-up for the rest of the game. They were always going to make a charge at the end before we could win back momentum at the dying stages (if at all).

As the Sat night game showed, if we had had just one or two more goals early in the match, a "four goal +" lead was going to be extremely hard for them to overcome in the last quarter, and they only just eeked out a win with a 3 goal defecit.

Hopefully we learn from this. You cannot surrender 3 goals to a quality opposition at their home ground in the first ten minutes, especially if you score nothing in the meantime.

This weekend we need a fast start, and if we win, then it becomes doubly important the weeks after!

Why did that thread that was up before get deleted? The one about having to defeat St Kilda at the G for any chance of a premiership anyway? MODS?

I wasn't the one who moved it - but I would harazrd a guess it would be because the same post appears verbatim in this thread so there really was no need to start a new thread with the same post.

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

                        Goddam, is that all??
Alot of the game was on the wings, or in the eagles forward line. I think iur backs did a fair effort considering. LRT did a pretty good job considering that size and experience were against him.

I moved it and was distracted by work (stupid work ) and forgot to provide... (bugger phone again) a comment. Exactly as Mike said - same comment as in another post, so it's own thread was not needed.
