    Since when do you get a free kick for running off the mark and into an opponent? It's not in the laws of the game but we saw it tonight. I think it's fantastic that the AFL allows the umpires to be so wonderfully creative. Rumours are that improper usage of Latin will result in a 50m penalty next week. I can't wait!

      "Hon", "Stephen" and "CT" have an unusual idea about tripping. The rule is:

      A Player makes Prohibited Contact with an opposition Player if he or she:

      ...

      (h) trips or attempts to trip an opposition Player, whether by the use of hand, arm, foot or leg;
      Whether or not they intended a trip is irrelevant to the free kick. Intentionally tripping a player is considered reportable but any trip deserves a free kick. It's amazing how some supporters are so lacking in knowledge of the game!!!

          What annoys me even more about that decision is that I don't think that Goodes actually had possession of the ball when he was tripped - so the umpires missed two frees in one play.

                          Use of a single number is overuse of stats for the vast majority of the stupid masses...
