    Which Swans should be All-Australian?

    Yes, another thread about umpires

Which Swans do you think should make the AA team?

Hall seems to be the only certainty. I think he'll line up at FF ahead of the G-Train, with Pavlich at CHF.
Kirk would be my only other choice as a reward for a consistent season and leading the AFL tackle count again. I would find a spot for him on the bench.
I've read in a few places that Barry might be a chance in a BP, but I think he's been beaten a few too many times this year. He's done a stellar job filling in at FB against much bigger opponents but I don't think he's had an AA-calibre season.
Goodes has had a mixed year, a great run of form in the late-ish middle part of the season might place him in contention.
Can't see any other Swans coming close.

Agree with your thoughts ugg. Hall and Kirk should be certainties but no-one else has been consistent enough.

In a perfect world, Barry would be a shoe-in. Can play tight on big forward and good enough at rebouncing. Just about a perfect medium size defender.

Wont get in though, most of our players are underrated somehow.

I think C Bolton is a smokey. Extremely consistent, and the main reason IMO why our defense has been so frugal all year long. If anyone is going to pinch a spot on the bench it may be him, and possibly at the expense of Kirk, but I think he deserves a HBF spot ahead of Clement.

I reckon we will only see BBBH in the AA team tonight, although agree with others about Kirk, Barry and C Bolts being outside chances.

Hall and Kirk, no others come close.

B1 was on fire early, but I doubt he has done enough, considering the wealth of talent in the middle from other teams.

Barry is chance - a lot of the media pundits seem to like him (especially Walls). If they stick with their "rule" of not naming players out of position he shouldn't be there, given he's pretty much played FB all year, and clearly hasn't been the best FB. But I reckon there is a relative dearth of consistently well-performed defenders this year and he may get a gig.

Kirk should be being talked about as an AA possible far more often than he is. Not only does he lead the AFL in tackles, he also leads in contested possessions, I believe. Contrast this to "shoe-in" Hodge who floats about the half-back line, often without an opponent, trading dinky handballs and backwards kicks to accumulate his possessions. Kirk's possessions are rarely easily won, and while his disposal isn't as polished as others, he rarely wastes it.

Sadly, AA selectors seem to be attracted by flash and dash rather than true effectiveness.

Hall a certainty and Kirk and very good chance to get in. Leo Barry has too many goo dplayers against for a back spot.

Jude has had a poor year in comparison and Iwould be amazed if he got a selection.

Amon is more likely to make the Socceroos side than the All Australian side.

Hall definately, Kirky really should be but wouldn't be suprised if he didn't make it. Would be great to see craig bolton get in for a terrific season but an unbiased opinion would suggest there are more deserving defenders out there.

I don't think you could necessarily classify others as more deserving, however there would definitely be more high profile players contesting for a position, plus the fact that he plays across the HB line but his role doesn't see him creating play further upfield would count against him.

You make a good point but I still think if you put every defender in the comp up for comparison there would still be maybe 8 or 9 that have made a bigger impact this season, however you would be hard pressed to find any as courageous.

You sure about that? He is an extremely good rebound player, highly under-rated IMO. Not only does he mark across the HB line, where many others would spoil, but he also has a very accurate kick and excellent vision.

You don't need to convince me about his skills and abilities - I agree with you wholeheartedly.

What I meant was that he isn't a traditional CHB, so would not get picked there, and then when it comes to HBFs, he will be up against guys like Hodge, Gilbee etc who really aren't defensive players as such, rather they play as "quarterbacks" who try and set up play from the HB line.
