Swans CEO declares SCG Swans' "spiritual home"!

"We're happy to play at the SCG, it's been our spiritual home since we arrived in Sydney," said Myles Baron-Hay, the Swans' chief executive.

    More importantly in that article:

Key midfielder Paul Williams, who corked his thigh in the last quarter, has recovered well and is expected to play, according to club doctor Nathan Gibbs.

Luke Ablett sustained a minor medial ligament strain but Gibbs said he was also on the mend.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

How could we not when about 35000 people are going to be unable to get tickets this Fri.?

If the majority that miss out are Geelong supporters, I won't mind too much. It increases the home ground advantage in the final.

Maybe not, but a lot would be potential members if not AFL converts.

Anyone who wants to attend this match on Friday night will be able to get a ticket.

My guess is that the game will NOT be a sellout. 5 days to sell an AFL match in Sydney ?!? We had two weeks to sell the Brisbane prelim to years ago and couldn't do that.

Actually it would be quite embarassing if we DONT sell it out. This is still our best chance to win a flag since 1996, even with the loss last week.

Not when you are trying to buy mutliple tickets, from what I read.

I don't see why it wouldn't be. It is a final after all. 70,000 at Telstra is nothing to sneer at BTW.

But we did sell enough tickets in the first two days to more than fill the SCG. Of course, the rules on buying tickets were different 2 years ago, but the demand should still be there.

If you think that Bart, then you are in for a rude shock.

Geelong supporters are in the top % of clubs who like to travel and even though it is a Friday night you would expect around 3,000 to 4,000 to make the journey up. Take away the SCG members and what you have left is only enough for Swans members (not including Melbourne based members either).

I reckon you will find by tonight there will be only less than 5,000 tickets still left for the game.

I only made the decision to travel up there today as I had to arrange time off work and transport so I won't be able to purchase tickets until tommorow morning, I'm a melbourne based member but if I don't get tickets I certainly won't be applauding the decision to hold the game at the SCG.

                            I'm armed and dangerous

This may surprise many, but the SCG has never actually sold out for a final, even 1996 prelim I bought a ticket at the gate on the day.

                            1996 Hawthorn 37,010
                            1996 Essendon 41,731
                            1998 Saint Kilda 36,076
                            1998 Adelaide 37,498

In fact, only one final has made it into the Swans top 10 crowds at the SCG

                            46,168 Sydney v Geelong S.C.G. 1997
                            44,047 Sydney v Geelong S.C.G. 1996
                            41,731 Sydney v Essendon S.C.G. 1996
                            41,264 Sydney v Collingwood S.C.G. 1999
                            41,243 Sydney v Collingwood S.C.G. 1997
                            40,623 Sydney v Carlton S.C.G. 1997
                            40,131 Sydney v Essendon S.C.G. 2001
                            39,827 Sydney v St Kilda S.C.G. 1997
                            39,763 Sydney v Hawthorn S.C.G. 1986
                            39,318 Sydney v West Coast S.C.G. 1997

The Geelong numbers in themselves are interesting, but they conincided with the last Ablett/Lockett tussles
