Originally posted by Snowy The grey area of umpiring will always present problems but the biggest concern re. the Barry free kick is that it was so unnecessary, apart from being wrong. As some critics have suggested, they should stick to the obvious ones, not focus on incidental rubbish. Their first task should be to get the bread and butter ones right.
That's one thing that really ****s me - it had absolutely no impact on the play so why award a free kick. It's these stupid technical decisions - whether right or wrong - that are harming the game.

Ultimately, we lost because we did not score as much as the opposition. We had our chances to win in the last minute, and almost pulled it out of the fire. Inside the last minute of play, we managed to kick the ball into our forward line three times. Schneider marked it once and got a goal. Had one of the other two kicks been marked by a Swan instead of Gardiner, we could have pinched the game.
We are right to feel hard done by with the umpiring, but it's not the end of the finals yet. Our path to glory is now harder, but it is not insurmountable. Let's focus on next Friday's final against the Cats. If we win that, the Saints await our arrival on the MCG turf on September 17. I believe the winner of this final will win the flag.

My honest feeling is that Geishen is a poor administrator who had the audacity to say that the error beared not on the result? Do you think he could take 6 from 2 to equal -4.
The first review from the AFL in October should be to find a new Umpires Chief!

I agree. I just hate them so much. Hate their supporters even more.
After the game on Friday this typically cocky ********** in an Wet Toast scarf said "Bad luck mate. But you know the Eagles were always WAY too good!" (bet he wasn't saying that at 3/4 time).
I nearly chased him and socked him one. It seems to be a trait of Eagle fans, be extremely poor winners. And kick people when they are down.
If we beat them in the Grannie, man I will be giving their fans some ********!
I just HATE the Eagles this season!

Originally posted by BRISWAN If we met the toasters in the GF, what crowd percentage would support us on the day, allowing for last Friday's outcome?
I remember the 1995 Reserves Grand Final, Kangaroos vs Sydney. We lost that one by about 15 points. The crowd support we got from the neutral fans was unbelievable, you would have thought it was a Swans home game.
If we do make the Grand Final against the Eagles, don't be surprised if we got a lot of neutral crowd support. Having not won a flag since 1933, the Swans would be well-placed to wear the underdog tag, even if we went in to the game as favourites. There are premiership players for West Coast still playing. There are no South Melbourne premiership players still alive.
It's not every Grand Final where a club breaks a long drought.
There is one thing certain about the makeup of this year's Grand Final. It will have a non-Victorian club that has tasted recent success playing against a Victorian or ex-Victorian club that has not won a premiership for 39 years or more. (West Coast / Adelaide / Port Adelaide versus St Kilda / Sydney / Geelong)
