    There IS a Precedent!

[Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere - I searched but found no reference to it.]

FIFA has set a precedent in the case of acknowledged umpiring errors, by ordering that a World Cup qualifying game be replayed. In the game last week, between Uzbekistan and Bahrain, a penalty goal was disallowed because of a player moving early. Instead of allowing the penalty kick to be retaken, the ref awarded a free kick the other way. Bizarrely, the side hurt by the decision was already 1-0 up, so presumably would have won anyway. But FIFA ordered the result cancelled and the game be replayed.

Of course, a replay is not quite what we were looking for after last Friday night, but it's an answer to all those who said "the umpire has made his decision and they will never reverse it".

Sydney coach Paul Roos dismissed that option, saying tongue-in-cheek: "I think we're a bit too tired and exhausted to get back over again this week so we might have to leave it until after the grand final.

        not really.

        1. neither the umpire's decision nor the match result was not reversed, instead the match was replayed.
        2. "it" did not occur in a FIFA match, instead it was in an AFL match that, to my knowledge has neither had its result modified nor been replayed.
        3. FIFA are complete idiots for allowing that precedent.

i just bought an upgrade of my opinion to

"the umpire has made his decision and the AFL will never and should never reverse it"
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

There's no comparison between FIFA and AFL.
First of all it was an international game between two countries, probably a World Cup qualifier, and if investigation from FIFA resulted in a game being replayed meanning that there was a ground for it. We might not know the full story, but that wasn't just a game between 2 clubs.
So, folks, please keep everything in perspective.

Uzbekistan/Bahrain VS Sydney Swans. I think I know which is more important

Actually reverse means to go back, which is what is happening. The result has been anulled and they are going back to play the match. Check any dictionary from any reputable bookshop. FIFA are not idiots they are justifiably concerned about the credibility of refereeing, unlike the present shambolic mob running the AFL.
