    Kirk a true champion

Brett Kirk is a very special player. He was targetted from the opening bounce last night (literally, a player ran straight into his back at the opening bounce and then he was backslammed 2nd ball up after he got rid of the ball) he was belted from pillar to post and still managed his mid 20s quota of possessions in a side beaten for most of the night.

When we looked dead in the water he lifted his tempo got stuck in and was as instrumental as Davis as getting us back into the contest.

And guess what, despite being grabbed off the ball all night by Rook he received.....yes, just one free kick for with one against.

He was amazing in the final term, just kept making the contest, hard ball gets were massive. We'd have lost last night without him. No way we'd have won half as much ball. Was poultry at times as it was.

Kirky was the spiritual leader last night, sadly not Baz.

Absolutely. Give points to Crouch too - he was taking a thumping and kept grabbing his shoulder but never backed out.

he was an excellent example of working through the pressure applied by the other team. He never gave up and was without doubt the leader out there last night. Silvani couldn't get the right words out to say how good he was in the last quarter.
He did make a lot more errors than usual but every one did because of the state of the ball and ground.
He seems to be an outstandingly fair and gutsy player.

I know Davo will rightly get all the Kudos but if it wasnt for the work Kirky did in that last term the opportunities to win wouldnt have been there. Give Kirky the captaincy and let Bas concentrate on Footy

From the "Season 2005: By the Number" article in the AFL record they made special mention of Kirky winning the ball, the stats they had were.
1st in the AFL in tackles with 144
1st in the AFL in first possessions with 139 (equal 1st with Kouta, not too shabby)
2nd in the AFL in clearances with 115
2nd in the AFL in hard-ball gets with 93
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

And yet some people, including several in the media who are paid lots to watch and analyse footy, still think Kirk is a tagger.

                  Go figure.

Kirk was being heavily tagged by Rooke last night, who finished with 15 tackles. Also unlucky to not get a few more free kicks for being tackled without the ball.

The lack of respect given to Brett Kirk is the thing in football that annoys me by far the most. That or people having a go at Nicky D

How is it possible that this bloke misses out on All Australian selection?

Hawthorn with 3 players in that team, what a joke! Melbourne football personalities can all go and get ********.

Akamanis -- for all his bull@@@@ -- said Kirk should be one of the first picked in the A.A. I reckon Captain Kirk for 06 for sure.

The A.A. half-back line has 2 Hawks in it -- and they were 4th in points-against this year!
To all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!
