I liked Jollys comments on Hall

"Trust me, he still makes a difference," Jolly said.

"His leadership and presence is a huge lift to the group."

I hope they also went thorugh the videos of their past two encounters with St Kilda to understand why they lost those 2 games. I don't like if somebody just brushes a loss to be just another lost game. I hope they analyzed it carefully and won't repeat the same mistakes.

I suspect that the Freo Saints game of R21(?) would also be studied closely too. Just as Thomas will have looked to see how both the Eagles and Cats played us. It amazes me that so many people think that the teams are amateurish as we are. There was one moment last year when Milne did one of his duck and weaves to get away from Crouch (I think) and when he completed the manouver he found Crouch waiting for him. It would take a lot of looking at tapes to recognise what a player was going to do as soon as he started his move. It might look like a game to us but I think more work goes into every game than many battle plans.

But even the best tactician (Roos?) need his troops to turn up.

Does anyone actually think that enormous amounts of background doesn't go into each game?
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

"[T]here are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football."

I think it varies from team to team. (Like we must have given the Saints our fitness/injuries coach for this year.) Apparently Hird was stunned to find the Lions had psychological profiles of every opposition player.

[I'd love to see their profile of Sheedy but I guess that's on public mental health records.]

Wonder if they noticed that every time Gehrig points to the mark or to the umpire, he runs around and has a shot for goal. The trick is to keep your eyes on HIM.
