    Taking Our Chances

When Sydney get a run on tomorrow night, capitalising at every turn will be vital for confidence and score board pressure because St Kilda will come and when they do, we better be well ahead!

Sydney can ill afford to go into Quarter time tomorrow night having kicked 1 goal 6.

Our gun forwards don't need to be told they need to capitalise, but there are a few soldiers who need to shoot straight!

    Monty
    Schneiderman
    Goodes
    Tiger

I'd like to think that all these guys will get their chances tomorrow night and when they do, should they convert, chances are Sydney will win!

Anyone agreee or disagree with the 4 (in particualr) selected?

Add ROK into the mix as well! He wasn't a sharp shooter of late either.

I also think we need to get the long-kicking going again. Not a stats person, but IIRC, we were about 14th in the league for long kicks per game before round ten, then first in the league for the rest of the season. Again, don't know the stats, but I think we haven't had as many long kicks in the last 2 games.

Just about everyone needs to improve their accuracy, but I would nominate Goodes in particular. Is he the worst set shot in the club?? It's an area of his game that he really needs to work on.

Tadhg is Ok on the run (Brisbane game this year, Collingwood game last year). In fact, if I had to pick a player to kick a goal on the run, it would be him. I think the Weagles game was the exception, not the norm.

His set shots, however, aren't so good.

i thought we were talking about current form

                oh silly me

wholeheartedly agree with the thread maker

if in the first quarter i see them giving away chances im going to cry because ill know it will be over

finals footy against a tough team = need every goal possible.

his set shots arnt so good cos he takes forever lining them up, he's thinking about the shot too much instead of going through the proper motion

IMHO Goodes kicking from set shots this year has improved markedly over his efforts in the last couple of years. I used to close my eyes and hope when he got the ball about 45 m out, but now I'm pretty confident he will go back and nail it.

Last season I'd have agreed with you but it's one area that he's noticeably improved upon this year. He's missed a couple he should have kicked but on the whole has been pretty good this year from set shots.

There are a few I would nominate to play on rather have a set shot (that is they are much better when given less time to think about it):
                            • Williams
                            • Tiger
                            • ROK (only marginally better on the move, not saying much though)
                            • Goodes (can kick some clever goals on the move)
                            • Matthews (doesn't get many chances on the run though, most shots come from free kicks I think)

Other way around for Mathews - good set shot, hopeless on the run... er... jog trot.
