    Collingwoods Banner Last Night

    It red...

    The games on ten

    The stands are packed

    The northern darling

    Is about to get whacked

Now on the banner it said "afl approved"

Did anyone else find this banner offensive ? I found the northern darling sentence a bit insulting and was surprised it got the all clear from the afl.

Well at least sydney got their own back to some extent with their's referring to collingwoods whinging.

I don't have a problem with it. I like the "AFL approved" bit - someone there has a seriously warped sense of humour.
Would have been nice if the whole game was on Ten - if it wasn't able to be, they could have cut the bit where the transmission broke down rather than broadcasting fluff to fill in a satellite drop-out that had happened half an hour earlier.

I guess if they didn't broadcast the fluff, they'd finish 5mins ahead of the rest of the national network. Which also explains why the game was on 30min delay (to match the broadcast times Nationally). I'd LOVE to know what happened - because on Fox the missing bit was still missing ... Obviously not a Satellite problem. Maybe a problem in the OB Van? Was described as a "massive power loss" - did someone pull the plug to the OB Van? No noticeable power problems in the ground from what I've heard.

I really liked our banner. It had "Hall them in" on the reverse which was a little dull.

Their banner was typical Eddie dribble (apparently he wrote it).

I thought the banner had something different on it...

This week's Magpie banner just Eddie McGuire's shopping list

Collingwood's cheer squad has again been forced to defend itself after the banner for the Anzac Day clash against Collingwood consisted simply of a note from Eddie McGuire to his wife.

A cheer squad member said the strangely worded Magpie banner was the result of a mix-up, in which the wrong note had been left for the cheer squad to transcribe.

"Normally somebody leaves a note with text for the two sides of the banner written on either side," veteran Magpie supporter Kristy McCrae told the Bladder. "Usually it's something like 'The team that we're playing isn't wealthy or wise/They're not much good either/So murder 'em Pies'. A heartfelt message, presumably from one of the club's most passionate supporters to the team. Then we painstakingly copy that message onto the banner."

"Recently the notes have begun paying tribute to some of the great public bodies supporting the game," McRae said. "Channel Nine, the Herald-Sun, the Footy Show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Tipstar and so on. All well deserving of a wrap, clearly."

McCrae said no cheer squad members thought twice when the text for Friday's banner was presented at last week's cheer squad meeting.

It read: 'Carla. Won't be back for dinner after all. Out for drinks with Wayne, Andy, Peter and co. Don't wait up. Love Eddie.'

The back of the banner simply read: 'Pick up milk. Dry-clean suit. Letter-bomb Caroline Wilson.'

McGuire claimed he had no idea how a note personally written by him had ended up in the hands of the cheer squad. He defended the banner regardless. "What it lacked in passion and poetry, it made up for in spelling and syntax," he said. "More than the Western Bulldogs can say most weeks, I think you'll agree."

Yeah, the hall em in bit I wasnt too fond of, as I thought it was concentrating on one player and there was no milestone attached, I thought it may have made the other players feel less significant. But I suppose Barry may have needed firing up after a couple of quitish weeks.

I wasn't too fond of the Hall'em In. But the other side was a classic and made the Collingwood message look weak.

                            BANNER

Making the banner, tracing and cutting out all those letters by hand and sticking them on is a time consuming job done by a small number of dedicated supporters.
Working out what to put on it is sometimes more difficult than all the cutting and sticking, trying to get something whitty and not too corny and keeping it 'nice' and within the regulations and all that.
So if you live in Victoria come to Flemington on the Wednesday night before the game and give a hand!
