I put a great deal of effort into the 96 GF banner. four days all up, one of those at the MCG until 2am of the day of the GF.

Julian, I could not have put it any better...being with this club through all those dark years when our imminent demise was gloated on by the likes of Roy Masters and the other Sydney media, makes being a Swannie very special..I remember the front page stories in the SMH of us folding...then, just a few years later to see the boys make it through to the 96 GF was a tremendous thrill, but this year the thrill has been 10-fold greater...again battling against a biased media, a hostile afl heirarchy and some of the most bizzare umpiring you would ever hope to see...

That said, to me we are caught now...the afl are split, I think. In a way they would like us to succeed to spread the code in NSW, on the other, they don't, because basically they are still the vfl, and we are seen as outside Victoria, despite the heritage. And they would like to have West Coast win the flag to take some of the gloss awayfrom the imminent start of the Perth rugby franchise.
