    Swans Supporters Inc

Very interesting AGM on Thursday night ?

I went there quite apprehensive yet inquisitive, not knowing what to expect, or what they were about. I left VERY happy, quite excited, and in full backing of their group (of which I have become a financial member).

They seemed very open and honest in what they are about, how they expect to do it, and very professional in their dealings (past AND future) with the Club.

Basically, you know all the whinges most members have about: voting, communication, membership privileges etc, WELL that is basically what they are trying to fix.

The group started during the Choose Roos campaign last year. From there began SSI (Swans Supporters Incorporated). There is a good mix of people on the committee (as elected on Thursday) ? Marketing, Business, Councillor (Local Govt), Hospitality/Journalism, Law. Julian on this list was elected onto the committee. Although not standing, I was invited to attend meetings at any time. ALSO the meetings will be rotated around Sydney so as not to be deemed an ?Eastern-Suits? group. Y the way - my thoughts on the ?Suits? tag: Suits form committees to try to identify & solve problems, overalls whinge in the pub. YES a HUGE generalisation, and YES I come from ?overall-country? (Blacktown) but its my opinion and I?m entitled to it! Don?t flame, stop & think & try to understand what I mean J

Anyway, I am looking forward to this group FINALLY getting the club into gear ? maybe playing Devil?s Advocate. Yes they are aiming for a Board Position, but as to WHO is aiming, that will be up to the membership of SSI to decide. Seems all fair & above-board to me. If they wanted to ?sneak? onto the board of the club they wouldn?t publish this fact on their web site!

Any ?renegade? group would NOT have had Paul Roos, Colin Seery, Neil Cordy & a number of players at their first function.

Feel free to browse their site & ask them ANY questions you may have ? And YES they HAVE been contacting people in Melbourne and identify the Melbourne-based problems as MANY MULTIPLE TIMES WORSE than for us Sydney-folk!

Their next step is to gain as many members as possible, to increase their leverage with the Club. And No they are NOT trying to overthrow the Board, in fact it was discussed and agreed that a full Board spill is DEFINITELY NOT what is best for the Club (we don?t want a Richmond-style system of fighting every 2-3 yrs!). 1/3rd of board for election every yrs (rotating so all positions are elected every 3rd yr ? similar to Senate where they have 8-yr terms but half are spilt every 4yrs, then the other half next time) is the sort of thing they are after. Obviously again this would be up to the members of SSI to decide the direction the committee takes.

Anyway, have a look, if you like the idea of a group approach (trade-union-style I guess?) then JOIN (or at least join the emailing list for free). If not, then disregard & don?t worry. By the way, the fees pay for the website, printing, etc etc. The full Inc rules are on the website and have been been registered with NSW Dept of Fair Trading.
