TOTC Guernseys - If everyone here gives me a dollar..

I still won't have enough to bid on one of these beauties!!

I reckon they will all go for upwards of $1000 by the end of the auction - and I just can't afford that. Plenty of people jumping in too early IMHO. You just NEVER bid on ebay until the last 5 minutes, everyone knows that

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I'm in the same boat as Des! Nothing under $500 there right now, and that's only 3 hours in.

I'd say that signed guernsey that we auctioned at the trivia night will be a bargain in comparison to these!

I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

Sorry des, I dont know that , because I have never bid for anything on ebay before. Is that because you only get one bidding amount at the item and if you bid too early you have no real idea of what it is going to be sold for ? So you might pay too much or not enough etc

No, you can bid as many times as you want. The trick is not to join in the "bidding war". pick a top price you're willing to pay, then place that bid as late as possible, to minimise the likelihood of someone else looking at your bid and saying "gee, I'll pay $10 more than that".

these prices will settle, and then go nuts again just before the auctions end!

TOC ebay auction

It's only the first few hours but it's interesting to note which player are going for the highest prices.

The whole team guernsey is leading (not suprising).

Next comes Maxfield followed by Creswell. After that are Goodes, Schneider and Hall (all the same price) then Roos and Williams

All the rest a pretty much the same price.

Reggi, DrJ and myself spoke about this on Saturday night.

Who would you get? was the tone of the halftime conversation.

I suggested Powell. Probably will go in the lower range and if he happens to make the grade, perhaps becoming a major player, an authenticated signed guernsey that he wore in his first ever senior game would be worth quite a bit, I would imagine.

BTW. If we had the conversation at full-time, I may have suggested Warfe. A signed guernsey in his LAST ever senior game may be worth something, if only so you could refuse to give it back so he can't play if he is selected again!!

I would actually look at one of 6:

Goodes - BOG in that game
Powell - first game in that guernsey
Team - for obvious reasons
Maxfield, Cresswell, O'Loughlin - as they were all nominees in the TOTC (not that any of them will make the final cut, but still worth having)

People have gone nuts

Goodes $2800
Schneider $2185 !!!!!!!
Powell $1825 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Williams and Maxfield $2025
The Team $2650
Kennelly $2025

But you can still grab

Barry $660
Micklejohn $610
Warfe $705
Kirk $660

Interesting one person is after all the big ticket items

There is something about this auction that doesn?t seem quite ?kosher? to me. I have bought and sold a number of items on e-bay and I have never seen the amount of bid activity this early in the auction process as this; usually there is an opening bid or two and then virtually no bid activity until the closing hours of the auction. Furthermore some bidders have placed 4 and 5 consecutive bids, which means that individuals are outbidding their own bids, that just doesn?t make sense.

The club has chosen to use a marketing organization to place the guernseys on e-bay, why would they do this? It?s not difficult to register and set up an e-bay account, it would take someone maybe a couple of hours to set up an e-bay webpage for the auction of 23 items. This would cost the club maybe $80 in wages and overheads, why would they pay a marketing organization a commission of maybe $6000+ (assuming a commission rate of 10% of the final sale price) when the e-bay process is so straightforward? Why do we employ marketing people if simple marketing operations like this are outsourced?

This ?auction? has an odor about it.

the players would probably be free to bid for their own jumper and they have a bit of cash!
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.

BBB - you gave it away

Have put in a bid on that famous goalkicking jumper.

Powell's will go for 2K plus - first game jumper

Actually I bidded then withdrew - I also am getting a bit suspicious - is it marketing companies or something bidding - hope the club is looking into this - all the same people - looks very sus

You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler

Either that, or those damn memorabilia companies... Expect to see them selling in your local merchandising shop for about $5000 next month...

So long as all the money goes to the club, I couldn't give a toss.
