Disagree. I think Goodes was always going to win that one as soon as he offered the handshake. Powell's petulant punchy reaction did nothing for his game, did not put Adam off his game and made him look a pretty sad case. No respect, and every opponent who comes up against him will know what to do just before the first bounce. They'll be ridiculing him every time from now on.

Barry doesn't niggle, just reminds people that he is around. They try the same thing with him.

...and you're entitled to that opinion.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.

I agree with this, after a game is a different thing. Before a game he may not want to even be acknowledging his opponant as a human being, let alone a gentleman.

He should have said "******** off, ******** head" then and looked less of a tool.

Yeah maybe. I am not denying that he looked a tool and I personally would have done it. However, I still do not rate it the same as not shaking after a game has been played. Wanting to be in the zone and all that.

I don't think refusing a handshake before the game is that bad, if your trying to get yourseld psyched up and build up a certain level of controlled agression for your opponent I imagine shaking their hand wouldn't exactly help. If he had refused a handshake after the match then it would be a different story but I think most of you are being a bit harsh on him.

I don't personally have a problem with not shaking hands before a match and there have been lots of players who avoided it - Carey for example.

However, the problem I have with what Powell did is that he didn't just not shake hands, he completely disrespected his opponent by getting physical in response to the offer. I think he may have even hit Goodes hand.

I remember last year when we played Melbourne up here that James tried to shake hands with Neitz - it was ignored. Nothing wrong with that because Neitz didn't want to shake hands but he didn't react like Powell did.

BTW, I may have mentioned this before but didn't Powell jab Goodes in the stomach during that altercation?

Yeah good point, he did react fairly aggresively but i couldn't really tell if there was a jab in there. It got goodes pretty fired up too which was good to see, I've always thought goodes needed a bit more mongrel in him.
