    AFL Ladder by Brownlow vote

There's a very interesting list on BigFooty of how each club rates by Brownlow votes.

Ladder by total Brownlow Votes Adelaide 92 West Coast 90 St Kilda 86 Sydney 82 Western Bulldogs 81 Kangaroos 73 Geelong 71 Fremantle 69 Brisbane 62 Hawthorn 61 Port Adelaide 60 Melbourne 54 Richmond 54 Essendon 50 Collingwood 37 Carlton 34 Number of players...

    It shows:

That's a fascinating correlation. Interesting that the Saints and Toasters rely on a few.

So, we are a more even team than West Coast and need to shut down their top players to win?

It can be argued they rely on a few or that a few particularly stand out and grab most of the votes. Given that midfielders dominate the Brownlow and WC and StK have two of the best-known midfields in the comp, it's hardly surprising.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

The Brownlow vote last night would imply that:
        1. Shut down Kerr, Cousins and Judd. I think Kerr is more dangerous early in the game, but clearly fades (or is finally tagged out of it) towards the second half.
        2. Limit the effect of Embley and Wirrpunda. These two give all of the run to the team.
        3. At worst break-even with Cox in the ruck dual. With two fit ruckmen, thats not terribly difficult.

A very beatable team, and I think the mantra of "well you cant shut them all down, because there are too many good players" is really a ruse (Roos?) to lull them into a fall sense of security.

The fact that they are the second youngest team in the comp should not go unnoticed. They seem to play well with the confidence that they have 6 game-breakers, but shut them down and you have 16 rather lost players out there. I think Fletcher is actually pretty ordinary, apart from one good year last year.
