Pekay J Allie is a great bloke and wasnt in that category. We really miss blokes of his calibre. There were quite a few others though.

Im with you Tara. J Allie is a great bloke and he would have done just as well playing in the prem league. But money would have not been an issue with him.

Can also concur that Jase is a great fella.

Roo, he did play well when he played at St George for many years.

I was not saying that he didnt play good footy at St George.
Just that in his time with SWS he would have been arguably there best while he was there. Probably better than Lees and Free.

He was one bloke we could depend on week in and week out. Im hoping to talk him into another season as hes not too old yet. I dont know how he orginally came to play at SWS but his bother and a number of friends were there, so I have a feeling that influenced his decision.

Jase just started a physio practice at Penrith and found it hard to get to Olds for training. Our loss was your gain.

Roo each of those you mentioned had their own qualities. Leesy couldve been better if hed approach a game wth Jays approach, but hes young and likes to party. I have played with Chook since I started playing with bankstown and hes a great competitor. When we lost those three blokes mentioned last year amongst others if put a pretty big hole in the club and hopefully we can slowly rebuild it.

Pekay from what ive heard hes staying put down there and I didnt take offense with what you stated becuase the truth is he deserved to be paid top dollar for his efforts considering others.

Does anyone know if Lees is staying at Wests or going to Campbeltown maybe?
What about the Kassam brothers, staying at Wests or going back to Parramatta?
HOw is Wests going with Recruiting?

Sorry Tara i dint mean it that way. I wasnt putting Lees or Free dow, they are both great footballers in there own right, but J Allie was more consistent, week in week out in your best 2 or 3. So no disrespect to Free and Lees.

Pretty sure that Leesy and some of the Kaseems are staying put. Dont think theyll go back to Parra.

Was that in the Ron Thomas era?

Because I was under the impression that plenty was spent to win those premierships.
I was responding in relation to the Goannas time in the SFA.

The Ron Thomas era was in SFL where clubs obviously have to spend to be competitive. All monies paid were the result of strong sponsorship deals arranged by the committee prior to spending.

For the benefits of all & sundry, the player payments at the Goannas in 1990 totalled the princely sum of $12k. Admittedly inflation needs to be factored into that figure ... but it is still a pretty low figure for all the perception & smoke & haze that has gone about over the years. That premiership team had alot of outstanding local juniors who played for the standard $25/win contract.

Peter Free & Sean Fitzpatrick were playing coaches so you would expect them to be paid - it is a thankless job & seriously underpaid. As for Trev Burnett he lives in Wollongong & was fed up of travelling to Campbelltown after doing it for so many years & had achieved everything that he wanted to (premierships, B & Fs, Phelan).

Kassem boys intend on playing again at Wests next year.

I think I remember reading the Wests 1996 annual report (being a public document) & it showed player/coach payments as $55k. This included a $8k bonus for winning the premiership that the players shared in thanks to a generous sponsor in irishman Mick Reidy. A good night of drinking in Croydon that night!

Sorry Pekay been busy getting things set up out at Monarch. It will certainly be an interesting year.
Things have started well, and yes peanut the numbers are 30 plus. Maybe you should drive out and see for yourself Tuesday or Thursday evenings.

Have been lucky to sign Ahmat and Webb as assistant coaches as well as Parker, Coleman, Franklin, and Wright. Jason Haddock returns after a year off as well as Chris Jordan from overseas.

Hopefully for or five senior players who also did not play in 2005 will return in the new year.

We have a big job ahead of us but we are all looking forward to the challenge.
