This is a press release from Central West champs, Bathurst Bushrangers(a shame they're a uni!!) Bushrangers will be fitter and tougher in 2006
That is the call from Fitness Coach Peter Yandle following the Club's first training session on Thursday. The reigning Central West AFL champions were put through a short, but tough session with a 3km time trial conducted around Learmonth Park.
"The aim of the session was to gauge the basic fitness of players and give them a bit of a benchmark to improve on over Summer" according to Yandle. "Come Pre-Season at the end of January/beginning of February, I want the guys to have a good fitness base because I tell you we're really going to step up the pace in 2006".
"The Club is at a very exciting point of it's brief two year history. We are the premier club in the Central West with back-to-back titles and as a player I have no desire to hand over that crown."
"I would love to see the Club continue to grow from strength to strength. We have a fantastic group of players and officials at the Bushrangers and who knows, maybe some time in the not so distant future we will have enough personnel and resources to make a side from the Central West viable and go on to compete in Sydney or Canberra (as well as the Central West AFL competition)".
But to achieve that, Yandle believes the players need to challenge themselves physically and step up a level. "I think the best from the Bushrangers is still to come. We have a good group of juniors now coming through the ranks and no doubt they will be putting the pressure on for Seniors selection in the coming seasons."
With many country league clubs commencing practice matches in March, Officials will be keen to take a look at the new recruits and existing pool of players once official pre-season training commences at the end of January.
Footy ticking along well out that way.
