    Masters Football

Does anyone here play Masters Football for over 30's?

I'm interested in playing this year.

What is the standard like, and fitness of most players?

    Cheers,

    Phil

I don't play Masters yet (though I do qualify!) but I have seen a few matches over the years ... the fitness levels have a wide variety - some as fit as when they were 25 but some in worse shape than that guy on Celebrity Overhaul

Standard is pretty similar to fitness levels with a big range in ability out there - some very good footballers, some not so good.

Most importantly they seem to have a bit of fun & they have a BBQ & drinks after every game. From what I can gather they select 2 teams on the day based on whoever shows up & I think training is non-existent (although thoroughly recommended to avoid any unforseen events such as heart attacks, etc).

I think that AFL could easily promote the game to first timers that may have an interest in footy but were always afraid of various things such as skill & fitness & the physicality.

So in summing up, I'd recommend Masters footy to anyone regardless of size, shape, skill or prior experience (you just need to be old enough & want to play "footy for fun").
See me run a marathon again as a leprechaun?

Thanks Rafters - I played last year for the first time and did a preseason and played a couple of games for the Bulldogs in Div 2, but found the time commitment difficult with a young family.

Having turned 30 in the middle of last year It sounds right up my alley - will just have to get some discipline with my fitness!

      Cheers,

      Phil

You should drag Gull down there, Phil - he's well overdue for a run in the Masters!

Gull is in his element - he was coaching the "moths" last year, and I suspect will do the same again this year. I don't think he has any real motivation to move on, and the body seems to be holding up.

From the Masters website last year games were played at Warwick Farm (Liverpool) and Quakers Hill (Kellyville)

No details are available yet this year - I have tried contacting them by "guessing" an email address, but have not had a reply yet. There are no contact details on the Masters website - http://www.mafnsw.com/
