Vist of Carlton FC to Newcastle

The visit of the Carlton FC to Newcastle for the Community Camp this week has really created some interest within the local football community and alerted Blues Officials to the interest, growth and potential of the game in the area.

The Carlton people, led by Denis Pagan are to be congratulated for the way they involved themselves in the various programmes which were held over the three day period.

Their involvement has has given impetus to the game and its image in the region.

Well done Carlton and the AFL.

    Too True,
Its been a great week Dragon, with the Intra match on the Monday (no Hawthorn esque punch ups mind you) and the Dinner in the evening, which had 250 people in attendance , plus the visits to the Schools and Hospitals etc on the Tuesday.
Tuesday night saw about 40 coaches turn up to hear what the Blues coaches had to say and there would have been twice that many young guns turn up to hear what the players had to say in the youth forums.
Today there was a Barassi Club function that I was at and to hear Pagan and Jason Mccartney speak was just brilliant. The Barassi Club raises funds for local footy in the area and I must say they do a good Job. Over 150 people were at the gig today and they all seemed to have a top time and were all hanging off every word that the two speakers had to say.
Jason Mccartney also spoke at St Francis Xavier College at Hamilton. For those who don't know, the college is the senior catholic school campus in Newcastle and has been home to many novocastrans through their senior school years, including Screaming Jets front man Dave Gleeson.
The college was touched by the 2005 Bali Tragedy when one of the Schools teachers, who had been there for many a year, was killed at Jimbaran bay, along with some students' family members. Mccartney's presence would have no doubt been welcomed today at the school.

Like the Dragon said, it has been great to see the Blues up here, they have done a mighty job for footy in Newcastle this week, as have the Swans and the Cats in the past.
