Can you please point me to any personal attacks on Glen or the Campbeltown Football Club. I simply stated that I hope they dont improve this year which is the truth and that Glen must have trouble remembering what colour shorts and socks to pack given the number of clubs he has played for in the last few rounds.

I dont have any particular dislike for many of the people currently at Campbeltown but have no respect for the club in the way that it handled itself on and off the field in the mid 80's and through the 90's.

Anyone who was around Sydney footy in that time will now to exactly what I am referring.


This is a football forum, it doesnt have to be all lovey dovey a bit of honesty and animosity can only make it a fun place to visit.

Geez,Humphrey,you'd wanna hope you dont actually take the field (if you play)and run into Garner.....he doesnt need any more ammunition now.I'd much prefer him on my side than the opposition.Good luck to you Glen,in rebuilding what was once the most daunting team to play in the 80s-90s.Wait a minute-maybe Humphreys career was halted by the Blues Juggernaut-hence his anger towards Town.Just my 2 bob.

As for C'Town in the 80's and 90's, i think your only problem is the dominance of the blues at the time, and i hope that dominance comes once again to shut people like you up.

Dominating a competition is great but you have to wonder if it is worth it when you have produced no local juniors of any note and are just about broke. As I stated previously I am not a fan of the way the CFC conducted itself in that period.

There is a better chance of me winning the Brownlow than Campbeltown dominating again because all they did was buy premierships and didnt spend any money or time on their junior area and have been paying for that for the last 4 or 5 years.

Maybe Glen can reverse that but I cant see the sins of 20 years being turned around very quickly.

Where do you get your facts from Humphrey?

The young Campbelltown team that played last year was made up mostly of local juniors, while they did finish with the spoon it was good experience for the young fellas and they will benefit this year.

Campbelltown has had 2 players drafted in the last 5 or 6 years. And several that have gone on to play in the WAFL and SANFL.

Also how would you know of their financial situation? From what i have heard they are pretty comfortable with their finances.

IMO 1987 was much worse because it went for the whole game and there was more sniping.


In 91 it happened early with Archer (I think) having his jaw broken by Patterson (If memory serves me correctly Patterson was suspended for a season)in the first minute and then it was still tough but it calmed down for a couple of 1/4's until just prior to 3/4 time and some good footy was played.

Then Ronny made that magnificent call to arms at 3/4 time. I am very glad I went to the Parra huddle because I have never heard a coaches address to rival it and the last 1/4 was mayhem.

Your memory of who hit who was correct Humphrey, that was a turning point as Archer was a gun player.

As for Ronnies call to arms, i thought that happened at the 1/4 time break. After all the years of footy that ive been onvolved with i remember that address the most and i wasnt even playing.

1987's GF for me was worse, it made A Current Affair & Wide World Of Sport. One bloke from Campbelltown got 48 weeks so it was certainly on for young and old from before the ball was bounced until well into the last quarter..

Both were very bad but a clear points winner would have to go to the 1987 one as it was on a more grand team scale rather than a few individuals doing cheap shots. Also made the Saturday Wide World of Sports were Ian Chappell famously said "I went to the fights on the weekend ... and I saw a game of football in between". I think Peter Betros wore 113 on his back when he returned to footy to symbolise the length of his suspension.

I know that the aftertaste from 1991 was not pretty in the Goannas camp. It was the most significant turning point in the club's history - unfortunately on the down side. Was never a big fan of Nth Shore after that day.

I did enjoy our matches against Campbelltown - some of the matches were as tough as I have ever been involved with - surprisingly they were mostly fair though as I think there was a mutual respect. Lots of passion from the sidelines by the spectators. Great memories.

As recent drafts show, it is not easy for a club to produce too many juniors that make AFL footy in NSW. They have had their fair share of juniors through the ranks - R Moller being the pick that I have seen. I think they have won 8 premierhips since 1985 which makes them the best performed side in Sydney by far in the last 20 years despite Norths perhaps winning more games than any other club in regular home & away (bit of Port Power v Brisbane Lions).

The loss of Bob Prenter RIP can never be underestimated by that club & effect that it has had in recent years ... but they have bounced back before & will bounce back again. They have an amazing work ethic & support base. I always enjoy seeing Mssrs Noack, McLaughlin, Hennessy every year ... even big bad Russell Matheson I enjoy having a chat to.

I wish them & all the other clubs all the best for 2006 - can't wait for the season to start.

Yes Dave Archer (twice All Australian Teal Cup & ACTAFL medallist) & Dale Laube (ex-West Adelaide) were in the dressing room with broken cheekbones in the first 5 mins of the match in off the ball incidents. Patterson & John Glynn were the villains & I am sure they now regret their actions.

Was in the days of only 2 on the interchange and playing on the very large Edelsten/Monarch/Macquarie Fields oval on a warm Sept afternoon. Goannas finished with 15 on the field thanks to a few more injuries & a send off in the last quarter.

"Rotten" Ronnie Thomas - who incidentally won a premiership with Melton down in Vic last year in his return to coaching after Wests in 1997 - gave his famous speech at 3/4 in front of the crowd but in particular in front of a few officials who had a word in the umps ears. His speeches were always "fun" but not if you were on the receiving end of them. He would always get good numbers to his huddle & there would always be a bet on who he would blast - Paul "Errol" McIvor was always the short priced favourite at the Goanans whilst I think Fiddles & Eckers got their fair share at Wests.

Within the club he is famous for a few comments made at half time in the dressing room on that GF. Needless to say, he lost the plot & barked the wrong instructions - but was a damn fine coach up to that moment when rage took over.

I reckon it would have been interesting if Ronnie was in a blue & gold jumper for that last quarter!

I remember being behind him on the hill at Erko during a GF against Norths when someone from Parramatta got cleaned up and he sent "the big red firetruck"(Mick Partridge from memory) from full forward to full back to seek retribution.

Memo(lets get GF's back at Erko), a great ground.

One player who i did admire from C/Town in that era was Rod Podbury, bloody good player and very fair. No wonder he won so many Phelans.

Not sure of the final number of reports but it was pretty significant - about 12 Bears & 8 Goannas reported - biggest suspension 24 weeks.

Both clubs also docked points for the first 3 games of 1992 as well. Norths were able to just scrap into the 4 still that year by percentage & made the GF only to lose to Sydney Uni coached by Rod "Tilt/Rocket" Carter.
