    Young Swans

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone went to the Swans Reserves game this weekend as I was wondering how they went, I couldnt find any news on them. What was the score? and if possible who played?

The ACTAFL season doesn't start till next weekend, so unless they had a trial this weekend against someone they wouldn't have had a game.

Norris Lurker: Sorry I should have said Pre-season game.

          Pekay: Thanks for your info.

Usually they post something on the swannies site, but for some reason I cant even get to the ressies area, the sub headings up the top dont appear, is this just me? if its not just me then they must be doing something to the site. =]

Get this team into the VFL so they can stop beating up on the poor Canberra clubs.
Can't be good for footy there.

Great for us though - more silverware, almost guaranteed.

Just out of interest, how is it decided who plays as top up player each week?

Do they just select players who are form the u18 program each week?

Dylan Addison is playing with VFL club Werribee (Western Bulldogs feeder) where I work this year and he played some games as top up last year in the AFL Canberra Competition.

That's 'cos he got drafted by the Dogs! (Presumably they just pick the most promising youngsters from the Sydney comp as top-up players.)

Yeah they generally grab u/18s from either the Sydney or Canberra competiton, depending on the location of the game.

BTW not all of the Canberra clubs get a shalacking everytime they play the Swans. If you actually look through the results since the Swans have been in the competition, the Belconnen FC are pretty much level with the Swans in regards to W-L ratio when the two clubs go head to head. Belconnen also won the flag in 03-04 (the first 2 years of the swans being in the competiton).

While i do agree some games in the Canberra comp are a waste of time for the Swans, i wouldn't say they are a shoe in to win the flag each year, especially considering the swans didn't even make the grand final in it's first two years! With players such as Ablett, Buchanan, Dempster, Bevan all being regulars.

It is easy to write off the Canberra comp when you see some of the hidings against the low clubs, but don't get too cocky about the Swans totally dominating all the clubs in the ACTAFL, especially clubs such as Eastlake, Ainslie, Quenbeyan and especially Belconnen.

I was talking about him playing as top up for the Swans in the AFL Canberra competition, not the fact that he had been drafted by the Western Bulldogs.
