O&M vs VFL
Got to agree with Go Eagles. The Ovens and Murray is back to the premier League in country football but is is still a long way off the VFL. A bottom side in the VFL would still be a premiership side in the ovens and murray. The GVFL would be second and GFL would be third. If Wagga went into the ovens and murray and the moment they would struggle, they are no where near the team or club they were before joining the ACTFL.Give it a wash!Comment

It's great that everyone finally catches up to what The Spoiler told them 3 months ago re Wagga Tigers! Now I'll tell you again, The Swans will head to SANFL in the Reserves in 2008!! Humphrey told me so!! So Canberra is finished, kaput!! Gosh, here's an opportunity for an Eagle to fly in!SpoilerComment

My solution is to dive the Swans Reserves into two and play in the ACTAFL .
Now these could be two existing Sydney sides and I would suggest a team representing the North and the West .This would make the ACTAFL happy and increase the amount of good footy in Sydney including the creation of the much vaunted "derby" .

Currently we have the Swans reserves playing and dominating the ACTAFL and some of the Canberra clubs are getting frustrated .

I think it was mentioned in one of the Triple M broadcasts last yearthat the Swans reserves were looking at playing in the SANFL. Interesting rumour that was hushed up pretty quickly.Comment

That's the killer, if the Swans found getting the team down to Melb. and back a hassle and too costly (which they were generally able to do on the same day as the game, they'll have to do overnighters in Adelaide) surely it can't possibly fly unless it's getting bankrolled by something/one. The only upside is avoidance of the odd game in country VIC and Tassy.
Then there's the small problem of the SANFL actually letting them in, which given the SANFL's propensity for stability and the Swans reserves history, I can't see them being keen to let them in.
Pipe dream IMOComment

Since the Swans are looking at playing in the SANFL then obviously they are concerned at the dominance of the Reserves in the ACTAFL .
The AFL are looking at the return of the reserves system and that would be good for Sydney and Brisbane with an extended VFL being the likely outcome .

Well the AFL teams in WA and SA have thier players in the WAFL and SANFL respectfully .

I agree with all that have said that the current situation is not in the best interest of the sydney swans. The issue here should not be whether the structure of NSW/AFL footy is of benefit to the swans, but to the local football community. I do believe the swans need to be involved to some degree, as they are the flagship of AFL in our area, but the development of swans lists of the future should really be of little concern to the AFL, and that is where the support for change needs to come from. If the NSW/AFL footy leagues can be improved to an acceptable, at least semi-professional standard, then the swans may participate.
It is nice to dream of these perfect scenarios that see football thrive in all communities, but until the AFL powers decide to substantially commit to supporting senior footy other than the elite level, it is nothing more than fantasy, I tend to feel, like CB, that it is probably not likely to be seen in our generation at least, if at all.I hear not what you say, for the thunder of who you are.Comment
