Welcome Back - July 22-23

Welcome back to RWO - looks like we've lost a couple of week's posts when the site crashed, but hopefully we'll be able to make up for it & get the local footy talk going again. Apologies for the site being down - it was frustrating to not be able to get on, and I felt it as much as you lot did, but these things happen.

Unfortunately for Sydney footy, this site wasn't the only thing to be shut down over the last couple of days. Almost all of the grounds have been shut down, and every comp except Premier Division seniors is cancelled this weekend.
The Premier Division seniors matches have been rescheduled, and are:

Saturday 22nd July
UNSW-ES v Campbelltown (Monarch, 2pm)
Wests v East Coast (Henson, 2pm)
Sunday 23rd July
North Shore v Wollongong (Monarch, 11:30am)
Pennant Hills v Balmain (Monarch, 2pm)

Because of the site being down, not everyone's had the opportunity to put tips in; and hopefully someone's got a copy of the leader board over the last couple of weeks.
Should we put tips in this week and should they count? Maybe they shouldn't, since not everyone will get the chance to put them in.

Anyway, if we do decide to count tips for this week, my tips are:

I can assure you all that I have a leaderboard, and Rafters, you conveniently forgot the 10 or 12 people in front of you.

Unfortunately also for North Shore and Wollongong, the pretentious manner of the completely out of touch councils in this city meant that Digital Sports were no longer able to cover the Bombers-Lions clash (as we had no idea where it would be played when the decision had to be made).
Yesterday's top of the clash between Wests and Eagles was the replacement, and it proved to be quite entertaining and drama packed, with the Eagles winning by 18 points.

Being busy with footy myself, I missed Saturday's games but will put in my Sunday games. FWIW I think it might be a good idea to scrap the round as far as the tipping goes. By the Way, the hawks won by 203 points agianst Killarney Vale yesterday!

North Shore Angel sms'd me on Saturday morning because she couldn't get on - her tips were the same as mine.

One of the threads that got deleted in the crash was about the selection of Fox Footy games - and as it turned out, the replacement game of Wests v ECE was one that's definately worth a look on Friday night.
And some of these councils that closed grounds really deserve an upper-cut. On my travels over the weekend I went past a couple of closed grounds, and they looked playable enough. If the councils had bothered maintaining them properly during the season, they wouldn't have formed any puddles - there wasn't that much rain during the week. It costs our game credibility when games are cancelled, and costs the clubs a lot of money - some clubs have now missed out canteen takings etc for three home games this season.
And well done to Campbelltown and the Monarch ground for saving the round. There was absolutely nothing wrong with that surface today.

What happened during Wests v ECE game that makes it worth watching instead of BB Friday night Games?

Let me guess, they finally closed Henson? Last week it was in such a poor state after a day of League on saturday that it didn't matter if it was used on Sunday - a bit more damage wasn't going to be a problem apparently, and it looked it - a patch of probably 15m square in the centre was pure mud, and there were puddles at either end by half time in the U18s match. I'm guessing it just got worse as the day went on? I so don't understand the logic in the ground closures...

It might be what happened after the game that is the interesting thing. I was not present at the game, but heard things were rather heated after the siren.

Rumour has it that a member of the notorious family at Wests jumped the fence and went 'Burko' on a few East Coast players and then did a runner out of the ground. My mail is a little sketchy at best but would like to know if it's even true. I am sure East Coast got it on camera like they do most things though and it'll be at NSWAFL HQ already.

In the last minute, Eid Kassem had obviously taken offence at Ben McNamara. I didn't see any physical contact before the final siren and don't know why Kassem was so fired up, but he was letting fly with a string of colourful language against McNamara during the final moments of the game which could be heard from over the fence.
I didn't see anyone jumping the fence, but it only took a few seconds after the siren to be an all-in mellee. It didn't last long before being broken up, but looked ugly.
