2nd Division Balmain Vs UTS Black result.

    Hi All,

I havn't spoken to anyone at the tigers this week so I'm not sure if this is an error or something has happend behind the scenes, but Sundays Tigers Vs Bats game was a 1 point win to Balmain, we sung the song and all, last night it has finnaly appeard on the Sydneyafl website and it has recorded a 48 all draw.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Seems no one has been interested in touching this......

By the way Adnar, who runs your second division and why hasn't anyone played well in that team all year?

This dosn't make any difference to our season as we are going to miss the finals but it may be of interest to some of the finals teams.

But this could definatly effect Bulldogs, Penno, Uni Blue and the Whales as it may change the final line up of the ladder.

This game last sunday was most definatly won by Balmain by a point. Everyone at the ground agreed upon this, including the umpires players there was no debate about the score, yet when the scoresheet was lodged (by UTS I believe) the score was adjusted to add an extra point to the UTS score, making it a draw.

The umpire (and club president) myself and others have complained about this but nothing has been resolved and I basicly got an email back from the official dealing with it telling me I should volunteer more.

This would have placed us on on 54% match ratio (which is a stupid concept) and it would be a very good bet to say that we would have won last week had it not rained and I expect a win this week, not a bad season really.

The team is coached by Adam Coles and I am unsure what you are asking with "why hasn't anyone played well?" (I like to think I have played at least 1 good game :P) We have mainly just been inconsistant. Having a few guys who haven't played before is one thing but also with reserves and first grade struggling there has been a lot more opportunity for boys to go up the grades very quickly this year so anyone who has shined for a couple of weeks gets promoted, which can make continuity tough.

Overall though, I would rate us as the best of the middle pack we got pumped in round 2 and 3, beat Sydney Uni blue after leading by 6 goals all day, where leading all day against UTS in round 6 and was unlucky to go down by a few points, then had 15 people turn up for St Clair.

Except for Bulldogs and Penno and St.Clair we could have won every other game we lost. Not a total disaster in my books, considering it's the same amount of wins that 1s and 2s have combined

The reason for the question was that at no stage this season has Balmain submitted a list of best players for the website. Makes it hard to know exactly what you guys are doing, and also costs the blokes that did play well an opportunity to be recognised for their efforts - especially in nailing a higher ranked team like the Blues.

The 'win/draw' may not have affected Div2 with the top 4 now set regardless after another SCHUAE, but the principle of things suggests if everyone agreed you won, then you should get the points.

Adnar's comments about the impact on other teams who may miss out on finals footy is particularly relevant. The result makes no difference to Balmain - but - if another team misses out on the finals due to the 2 points given to UTS Black, then if I were from that team, I'd certainly feel like I had a case to take to the league.

              Balmain have made several representations to the league through different channels about the result but it would be fair to say these requests have been ignored - including a simple request to see the scorecard. There are only 4 things that could have possibly happened for the situation to arise;

              1. All umpires counted up the score incorrectly at the end of the game.

              2. A scorecard was changed before it was submitted to the league.

              3. The league changed the scorecard.

              4. The league chose to ignore the scorecard, in light of an unrelated protest by UTS about the length of the quarters. UTS did not protest the score...

It's the lack of a response by the league that's disappointing - and the feeling that the matter is just too difficult so is therefore being ignored in the hope it will go away....
              Regards,

It's not the hope it will go away, its an admission that they don't take Second Division seriously.

Did the goal umpires waive off on the score at the end of the game?

If so then their scorecards must have matched and as we now know from our game against St George it does not matter if the score is incorrect as long both umpires agree on the score.

If they did agree and waive off on the final score and the cards match then the score can't be changed.

I would be interested to know how it is being dealt with and the final outcome if anyone knows!

The site has now been updated to reflect that the Tigers did get the win.

It only took the League a fortnight to resolve a simple issue, but at least it was resolved.
