    KV Brought Players

In response to "I applaud the Gosford footy club for not doing what some other clubs in the comp have done *cough*Bombers*Cough* and try to buy themslves a comp, only to see them go to the wall the next year."

Like to see your figures on all the players that KV brought, as far as i was aware many of them (incl. Adam Cambourne, Dillan Triggart and Michael Clarke) were ex juniors who were returning to the coast, while star pickup Clint Austerburry was moving to the coast regardless and looking for a club.

According to sources, those players that have moved on this year have been due to work committments and travel, many of whom (according to the circles) are on the way back in 2007!!

KV is gonna be an interesting club to watch in 2007....
    Go the BDAFL!!!

    Who is KV?
"It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

    YOU BETCHA!!!!!!

KV is Killarney Vale in the Black Diamond League which incorporates the Central Coast and Newcastle competitions. I have seen their trading ledgers (and the like) and I know they just dont have money to buy anything let alone a competition. The players budget to compensate for travel expenses is less than $5k which I consider is negligible. I beleive the new president of the club managed to coax a few businesses he deals with to throw in some money to make this up for the first time last year. Personally I just disregard any talk indicating anything otherwise.

Very interesting to read these posts. I know for a fact that two of our players were approached by Killarney Vale at the start of the 2005 season. One was about to enter his first year of Under 18s while the other was still an under 18. They were willing to pay $100 a game to each player plus petrol money for 2 guys who at that stage weren't established first graders. What is also interesting was that these boys don't have publically listed phone numbers so how were the Killarney president and secretary able to contact them (i know this because the boys told us the guys names?) The balance sheets may show that there is no money on an official club level, but there definitely are a number of people in the Killarney Vale footy club, as well as any footy club, who could easily bandy together and provide "under the table" payments if need be.
Thankfully our boys knocked the approach on the head and are playing good footy for us, playing big roles in us knocking them off on the weekend.

Fair reply TT. Talk over the phone may just be that. But anyway, they may ask 20 players but can only afford 2-3. Nonetheless it aint significant to be "buying a premiership" and it isnt any more than other clubs have or offer. The Tigers young guns are doing well from all reports. With Balmain becoming the dockers it leaves Gosford with a closer affinity to the Tigers name.

Seems KV might have made a push in 2005!!

Definiteley wouldnt have be the first time a gosford player had made the switch to KV, over the years there has been some quality players make the move, the best two examples being Davey medalist Peter Southwell and now KV life member and 4 times B&F Paul Harrison. Ive noticed Matt O'Shea on the KV list in 2006 and am pretty sure he also played in 2005, he also was an ex Tiger (although he went to terrigal before going to KV).

I suspect that given gosfords turnaround in '06' there might be players going to gosford rather than leaving there in '07'. Its a great thing for footy on the coast and also great for the blokes who have stuck with the tigers through the hard times, i think '07' might bring some bigger and better things!!

IMO when Gosford is going well, the competition is going well. Don't forget Dan Bembrick as an ex-tige.

Murray Schubert also had a couple of years at Gosford then went to the bombers.
The Killarney side we played against was a real new look side. Only a handful of guys i knew and ive been playing first grade for 8 years or so. It must be said if Austerberry leaves next year they will be under the pump. He single handedly kept them in the game on Saturday and carried about 5 blokes. A lot of the guys out there were probably in their last year of footy or just starting out so 2007 looks like it will be an interesting year at Killarney

Agreed, Austerberry did seem to keep the Bombers in the game last week end. He is certainly a quality player who reads the play extremely well, but surely a club cannot rely on one player to carry them in to the finals.
I believe nurturing the youth in your club, and creating a "team" environment during the re-building years is paramount. Paying for a team (if any club partakes, that is!!) usually brings you short term success, however the dynamics of the club suffers in the long term.
If a club can afford to pay some players, then I think that all players should benefit in some way. I am yet to see one player in the Black Diamond League that could warrant large game payments due to their consistent dominance. Albeit, there are certainly quality players, however if they were that good they would probably be playing in Sydney, or possibly higher levels where money is an option. In my opinion, the only players that could possibly come close in our league would be Kemp (Newcastle City), Mick Ryan (Cardiff), and Austerberry (K/Vale). Although a few Tigers player may give that a shove over the next few years (Unbiased of course!!).

I think Austerberry was getting pretty good money at East Coast!!

He got named BOG in the final match of the Australian country championships and also was named best BDAFL player for the NSW Country championships in Wagga. He seems like one of those players who really steps up when needed, i didnt see him play at the Aussie champs, but in Wagga he steped it up to another level!!

                    He is all class!!

There is another new player apparently on the books for KV who looks the goods, he has made the move from Ballarat!! Dont think he has played a game for them yet , but keep an eye out for him in 2007!!

It looks like 2007 could be a make or break year for the Bombers!!
