    Matt Withers

Rumour has it that Matt Withers has signed, or is very close to signing to play 2007 with his old club of Campbelltown.

Should this be true it will be interesting to see how the boys from Wests come together for the finals knowing that their key CHF is not committed to the team.

Anybody hear any other whispers of potential player/coaching movements for 2007??

Secondly, has anybody from the forum been involved in a game of footy that has been called off early due to bad light? ......The ECE / Balmain last quarter was shortened due to poor lighting? Can somebody tell us what happened at Henson on Sunday afternoon.....

I was at the Essendon v St Kilda game at Waverley in 1996 - that's the only case I'd ever heard of.

I wasn't there yesterday, so when I saw the scores I thought the Eagles must have taken their foot off the gas in the last quarter when they could have been shooting for 200.
Maybe some form of footballing Duckworth-Lewis system could have got them there...

Basically a problem with the power supply to the ground meant that with 4 games there for the day it was always going to be a challenge to complete the last match before dark. They ran shortened breaks during the two 18s matches, and made sure the 2nd 18s match started about 15mins early but not sure beyond that.

Will this be an issue this weekend (and the following 2 as well) with 4 matches on both days at Henson? I guess the days are getting a bit longer but it will surely add a bit more drama.

I don't see why they don't schedule 9am starts if they're that worried? Yeah it might annoy routines etc, but if it's going to be an issue, surely you'd rather see the whole day run an hour early than see a tight finals match cut short when it might still be in the balance.

I have heard a similar rumour about Withers which also involves Chris Lees playing for C'Town next year as well. They are both C'Town juniors and both still live in the area so it would make sense.

They have scheduled 9am starts, but that's because they've got 4 games per day. The seniors will start at 3:00 - they'll finish by 5:30, which should be OK at this time of year. Unless one of the finals goes into extra time...
The fixtures for next week are:

Saturday 26th August - Major Semi-Finals (Henson Park)
              Under 18s Challenge - Pennant Hills v Balmain (9am)
              Under 18s Premier - Pennant Hills v Wollongong (11am)
Reserve Grade - Pennant Hills v East Coast Eagles (1pm)
Premier Division Seniors - East Coast Eagles v Western Suburbs (3pm)

Sunday 27th August - Minor Semi-Finals (Henson Park)
              Under 18s Challenge - Western Suburbs v Campbelltown (9am)
Under 18s Premier - St George v North Shore Bombers (11am)
Reserve Grade - North Shore v Wollongong (1pm)
Premier Division Seniors - Pennant Hills v St George (3pm)

Saturday 26th August - Preliminary Finals (Kelso Oval)
Second Division - UNSW-ES Bulldogs v Sydney Uni Blue (10am)
              First Division Reserves - Sydney Uni v Manly-Warringah (12pm)
              First Division - UTS v Manly-Warringah (2pm)

I will knock this on the head straight away.

The Campbelltown Football Club has not approached any players regarding next season and won't be until all current players are re-signed.

I would be lying if I said we are not interested in trying to get the best CHF in the comp back to his home club, but we certainly have not and would not be talking to him in season. There has been no talks from either party and his team mates and club would certainly have no doubt about his commitment to Western Suburbs and their finals campaign.

We wish Kev and the boys all the best in the finals.

Maybe a straight swap as I have heard Parker has has talks with Wests.

Anyways, well done this year Kanga consider your young roster.

Both yourselves and the Crows have been the big improvers this year without the financial incentives of other undefeated sides.

I have been a long time reader of RWO and wondering if any body can shed some light on how st george are supposedly paying a number of players this year and the word on the street is they still have not paid their coach Glenn Garner from last year....

I can't comment on how or what they are paying their players this year but I can certainly confirm the rumour regarding me.
