Congratulations Malcolm Lynch

Congratulations to Malcolm Lynch from St Ignatius Riverview and the NSW/ACT Rams on being selected by the Western Bulldogs in the draft.
He's originally a Tiwi Islander who's been studying in Sydney for the last couple of years, and has made enough of an impression with his pace at the ball to get picked at AFL level. Lynch will join Dylan Addison, who was selected last year, at the Bulldogs - good to see some Sydney talent getting a go at AFL level.

After a disappointing season for St Ignatius this season, it's good to see that some players are still getting noticed. As well as Lynch, who played in last year's U18s premiership side, the school team has also recently had Will Sierakowski signed as an AFL Scholarship player with Hawthorn.

Good to hear a NSW player getting named on draft day. Hopefully we'll hear more of it in future.

He played a game out at Bensons a year or two ago, as a curtain raiser to the Jets..they played a severely understrength Greater West 18s team and kicked a lazzzzy 14, very slick with hand and foot, and like lightning when he gets going..all the best champ.

Given he's only been in Sydney two years (and only during the school year at that) it's a bit of a stretch calling him "Sydney talent". The fact that we're claiming him as a Sydney player again demonstrates the current dearth of talent at draftable age.

There's still a long way to go before we see 4-5 real Sydney bred players going on to AFL level every year and the majority of those will go via scholarships now anyway.

i have it on good authoriy that malcolm was named to play last sat at 2.30 pm darwin time for southern districts... great player.... but after being drafted at pick 66 had to pull out of playingf at parker got his spot....

Its a bit of a stretch to say he has only been here two years, given that he has been at Riverview since year 7 and living with his aunty and uncle- only returning home at christmas time

He is a real bred sydney player, maybe you should research players before claiming that they aren't true sydney talent. riverview and his family brought him up and he's played for NSW/ ACT as long as he has been of age!

Didn't check my facts there my apologies but my comments were based on Norris' post which did say "the last couple of years".

however.................. I still stand by comments with regard to the dearth of Sydney....... perhaps I should say born and bred talent, rather than someone who would've had the sole diet of Aussie Rules in the Territory prior to coming to Sydney at 12 odd years of age.

sorry, get a little fiesty over inaccuracies. do agree with you on born and bred talent, i know alot of kids in NSW/ACT who could be great with proper attention, but sydney just doesn't provide the forums for these kids to get noticed

anyway, i thought with sydney showing so much support for malcolm over the last two years it strange they didn't pick him up, so thumbs up to the bulldogs for taking notice

Had the pleasure of seeing the Doggies-Lions game last night and was very pleased to get to see Lynchy play. He was given a fair amount of game time, looked quite natural on the field and only a couple of times looked to be a bit out of his depth, mostly just on things that players seem to gain with experience (e.g. leading into space, leg races etc).

Well here we go again!! Let's hang our hat on someone. Let's make it Malcolm Lynch......... He actually has camped in Sydney a short time so this must be a result of the development program???!. Oh that's right the NSWAFL have brought in ALL the AFL Clubs to develop the talent because there has been a lack of development!!!!!!!! Gosh, where is the success story in Australia??? Oh that's right Queensland. Now, who is leading the Development Team up there?? Oh yes, I'ts Mark Browning........ex Sydney Swans. Golly did he apply for the same job in NSW and get knocked back.......??? Haven't got it right again have I?

Only half a season after joining the club, Lynch has been picked to make his senior debut for the Bulldogs against Freo in Darwin on Saturday night.
Congratulations again Malcolm. Again, a player from Sydney who gets drafted makes his senior debut in his first season.
