How can you expect players to be dying to help out when they board can't even introduce a manager or a coach to them two years in a row?? I know things like clean jerseys are really important, but coaching staff are handy too. and not someone who'll do it cos no one else will.....POOR MANAGEMENT!!!!!!

Do you call finding a new major sponsor who is prepared to put money in the club to enable the purchase of equipment, payment of phsio's, coaching staff etc etc with an agreement to increase the sponsorship in the second year poor management? Yet at the same time the players have a responsibility to the sponsor to attend functions to ensure they can see value for their money, verbally assure you (blantantly lie I should say) that they will be in attendance yet not turn up. Is this the managements fault?Comment

What players?? There's hardly anyone left! If the management put in the ground work and recruited properly over the last couple of seasons then you would have the players TO turn up. Don't tell me you tried this and that. Every other club seems to be able to do it.
You said the management appoints a new super coach who lets you down......the guy is in the army!! the management new that. He left!! The managment hired him, therefor the management are resposible.
Basically the management are appointed to run the club. The buck stops with them, not any of the players. Am I making sense??www.achtungbaby.com.auComment

Let's get a different opinion from people not associated with SWS.
I'm not saying that the people running the show are 100% at fault. I know they try...a bit.
...but surely they must accept a large portion of the blame. Much larger than the players.
Would YOU agree or disagree???www.achtungbaby.com.auComment

Are all these clubs badly run?
You only know what you see from the surface but dont know all the facts. I can clearly identify when poor decisions about the club were made that have led to our current predicament yet to those on the outside they would have seen what appeared to be a club on the rise potentially. Over the last few years we have seen the damage caused by those decisions. Hindsight is a wonderfull thing but the current commitee have embarked on a plan to rebuild the club and to learn from the past mistakes made so we are able to return sooner than later.Comment

Irish_33 i do take offence to these acusations as i have been one of the longest serving executive committe members for the club and this just seams like a bit of sour grapes on your part not sure as to who you are really trying to have a go at here but i do take offence to it, allthou i have steped down from my committe comitments i have always put my hand up to do what ever is requiered to try to keep the club running in the best posible manner, and as far as you say that there was to be a non-playing committe i do not recall this as i have allways played every year and Bampo was playing as well when he was Pres.Carn' The CrowsComment

I don't know why you of all people are taken offence. The club was in fine form when you were there.
I'll say it again. It's not a swipe at anyone, rather a defence that not all the players are responsible. I do think however that the managment are still more responsible than the players, thats all.
........and i'm 99% sure it was the year after Bamton stepped down.Last edited by Irish_33; 12 February 2007, 03:12 PM.www.achtungbaby.com.auComment

On the flip side there is the playing group, and the reality is that the vast majority, certainly at this level, just want to have a kick in a reasonably competitive environment and at the same time have some fun with their mates.
For a club to run effectively requires a collective effort, and unfortunately most players aren't particularly interested in doing the mostly crappy jobs that have to be done. They need to be hounded to attend club functions and the like that take an awful lot of effort to put together, and in my view don't really appreciate or understand the effort that goes into getting them on the paddock each Saturday. That being said, you can't expect any different when football isn't a particularly high priority in your life, that's just human nature.
Also, when you don't pay players to play, which I presume doesn't happen at First Division level, you don't have that financial stick to wield when you're asking guys to toe the line. You're relying on goodwill, which is much easier to come by when you're successful on the park, thus creating a vicious circle in a sense.
I'm of the view that this on the ground assistance is a real area that the AFL can concentrate on to help clubs in a substantial way. Perhaps one day they'll get the message, I don't know how much clearer it needs to be spelt out though.Comment
