    International Rules Day

The NSWGAA have approached me about an interim date of Sunday 1 April (no joke) for this fun day again between the might of the local NSWGAA sides and Sydney AFL clubs.

Matches will be played at Princes Park, Auburn in a round robin format. A good hitout for clubs that want to get run in the legs of their players.

Sydney AFL Clubs that interested in participating in the event this year can get in contact with me.

(Not sure when the Sydney comps start so it may be in conflict this day as well).
See me run a marathon again as a leprechaun?

No need to get the nose out of joint Tara. I have known a few of them for over 30 years (including the organisation of 3 previous days over the years) & they just wanted to know what date to set & then establish a sub-committee for the day which will include Irish. As a few clubs have hinted that it is too close to the season start (and would prefer to play a full-blown trial instead) I have gone back to them about an earlier date which they will decide on at the end of the month.

I dont have my nose out of joint mate. As your probably aware Irish and myself are mates despite my better jusdgement.

The kid organised it off his own bat last year and the day turned out pretty well from all reports (I expect Balmain to be training hard as we speak to have a real crack at the title).

Nice to know you will keep him in the loop.

Rafters, Irish, any word on new date yet??Am planning calendar around this and Ungarie as main trails, whats the interest like thus far??And Rafters,as you've been around Sydney Footy for many a moon, any chance of resurrecting that grand ol race that stopped a nation??(Well,it stopped the pre-season cups for a few mins)the 100metre sprint between clubs.Always a fave.

Ive been asked to post this so please no replies to myself.

Irish is unable to post under his old username to this site and has asked me to do so.

Yes he does have his nose out of joint after he instigated it last year and pretty much organised the entire event on his own with very little/no assistance.

He had and idea and saw it through and should be congratulated on the day. Pretty good day given it was almost a one man show.

The fact the the GAA didnt bother to speak with him has @@@@@@ him off right royally and he wants nothing to do with it this year or again.

Tara/Irish - the people that run the GAA have been friends of my family for the past 35 years. I see them in casual situations all the time - the most recent was at the funeral of my father when the NSWGAA had a guard of honour for him. They asked me casually if 1 April could be a goer for a date before they had their first committee meeting for the year. I said that I would ask around & find out - which I did & told them that 4 or 11 March would be better dates for the AFL boys. (March 11 would be out due to St Patricks Parade festivities). They are yet to get back but they said that when they do - they will approach Irish with being part of the organising committee for the actual day again.

They realised that one man did a great job last year ... with a few others it will be an outstanding day this year.

I know that Irish did the lot last year & did a great job as it was a great day. The fact that there are others willing to help out this year - primarily the NSWGAA - I don't see a problem with that. I also don't see a problem with family friends have a chat to me about input on a simple thing like a proposed date.

Remember that myself & dad had organised 3 Irish days over the years between Parra Goannas & NSWGAA as well; most of ye would know that I have played quite a few seasons in Sydney AFL & also Gaelic Football as well as being on the Superrules tour of Ireland last year & coached the Lions on the day last year - so its not exactly unusual that they would ask me a question such as "what do you think?".

Given my background, I could have easily snubbed the event last year for not being approached but I embraced it 100% & would love to help Irish out 100% if he wants to run it again.

Irish's input & involvement for the actual day would be crucial to the success again this year. My phone numbers are below if he wants to have a chat.

Rafters my position is pretty clear. I only posted what I was requested to as I stated.

For the record Irish approached all the Sydney AFL clubs last year many of whom I suspect will be involved this year snubbed it.

Pesonnally I thought it was a pie in the sky idea last year but as usual Irish pulled it off. I doubt he would be able to do so this year as I doubt his boss would be so lienient to allow him to spend so mch of his work hours on it .

Seeing that you do what you are requested ... would you please provide my explanation to Irish so that his nose isn't out of joint permanently? We need as many helpers in Sydney footy - especially new blood as his.

There has been nothing formally mentioned yet - I would pencil in Sunday March 4 as it seems like the only date that the two groups can effectively arrange something.

The NSWGAA worked out their season draw last night & decided on March 4 being the best fit for them for the International Rules Day.

They have not set that date in stone though as they need to confirm with Auburn council, but all looks good as they got confirmation that the Ladies grade cricket finals will not be played on the grounds on that day.

Irish can you please give me a call or get Tara to send me a private message with your contact details.
