    tides have turned

im alarmed by the amount of players in which st george have recently attracted to their club...
they have signed a number how can i put it high profile players within the league...i know of 1 personally...
hopefully the promises they make to these players can be met, both financially and future development.

As St george from my knowledge in recent years have found themselves in deep water over such issues.. lets just hope their not swimming further out..to depths they cannot keep afloat.

on another point i hope none of the followers of st george will make further remarks toward the headhunting of players by other clubs....because the season of 07 will see them with the largest contingent of players from other clubs.

It seems that the crows are causing a bit of a storm in the SFL. Who are these 'big name' players you talk of?
I would be very careful young kanga on repeating things about clubs that are rumours or in fact untrue. There are, as always, two sides to EVERY story.
Is it just me or does 'THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK' apply here?

young kanga you do make some very true comments and you all did cop alot for recruiting players from other clubs last year... but it is the way of the world these days and people come and go as frequently as warrick capper gets his gear off.... so if every one just learns to accept it then things will go alot better in the sydney afl...

Your right Rooster. Every club has players who have previously played at another club. Every player has the right to choose where they want to play, and reasons for leaving or joining a new club.

If players are silly enough to join any club for some short term cash, the way the sydney AFL is, the $$$ won't last and neither will the players that are at your club only for the money.

Penno have showed that a group of juniors who play for each other, is a much better long term option than trying to buy a flag.

I think there is some truth to what youngkanga is saying from reports i have heard.

That said weren't most of Campbeltown's players from other clubs returning players? I think that is different to getting another clubs juniors.

The fact the crows havent won a premiership for a while now after always having great juniors , the reason they havent had any sucsess is that they always seem to be going for a quick fix , signing players rather than blooding these young guys they have got and give them the 2 to 3 years of hardened first grade football . This is what Pennant Hills has done and are now reaping the rewards .

The Pennant Hills team that lost to the Crows in the U18's decider in 2003 was made up of all the young guys you see in their first grade side nowadays . The Crows on the other hand have a large number of these players either parting / or have parted ways with the club or languishing in Reserve Grade .

Once again with all the talk surrounding the Crows and who they have bought it is another player standing in the way of one of their quality juniors .

I know several young and old crows , and many of the young pups are becoming disgruntled with the club and I say Good Riddance .

Tigertown, just a little stat to show that you have absolutely no idea. In last years semi final, 18 of the 22 St George players were local juniors.

St George has no more than any other club to worry about. From my time in Sydney footy they have had plently of locals playing senior footy with very few recruits, or big name ones anyway. They might have struggled over the last couple of years, but prior to that I think they made the GF in 04 or 05 and the last game before the GF for about 5 years running. They've always been around the mark, and they will likely continue that way.

How many recruits have stuck around at any club for more than a couple of years and kept a local kid who is actually good enough to be a regular 1st grade player out of senior footy permanently??? Not many i'd say.

Every young local kid at all footy clubs has to compete for a spot with recruits, players coming and going, or older players not training but still getting games. Its part of doing your time and finding your feet. If they are keen enough, do the hard work and stick with it, give themselves every chance, then theres no reason not to get a go. You've just got to work harder than the player who has the spot that you want. I have no sympathy for players who don't play first grade; you only get out what you put in (injury aside).
