I'd hope that someone who works for the NSWAFL didn't use his position to obtain private phone numbers of registered players to forward his own cause. Surely there's some serious privacy considerations there.

Fortunately for Garns, though, Rooboy's verbal barrages have severely undermined his credibility.

    Say it aint so Garns....
Sorry mate I found it so ridiculous I did not think anyone would take the claim seriously. No need to worry though Monty I can assure you that the famous top 25 player phone list is yet another fable as is the claimed coaching interview in which it was disclosed. I only had one coaching interview last year and that was with Campbelltown.

I have no access to any databases from AFL NSW/ACT although I will gladly tell you that I have a couple from my previous coaching and playing appointments and I would imagine that a number of who I think to be in the top 25 would be on those lists.

This year I have sat down with 3 players from rival SFL clubs who indicated to me that they were unhappy and contemplating a change. Like most playing coaches I have had a few casual conversations with players over the off season, some initiated by me and some by them.

At the end of the day you would not get a list from the AFL nor would you need too. Each year you target a couple of players and follow up on any players who indicate that they may be interested. Player initiated conversations are a lot more common than a coach or club chasing a player.

A prominent member of our club ran the League's player database for a number of years until relatively recently, and certainly there is no way that he would have considered using it in this way for these very reasons (from memory he copped some good natured ribbing over it from time to time).

I guess I could understand someone being tempted given the opportunity, but it would be very poor form.

I wasn't implying that Kangacoach did so, but thought, for his sake, that he should at least deny the unsubstantiated allegation.

Although I did enjoy Rooboy's rants and took them at face value for what they obviously were, prehaps a week in the sinbin is not enough, given the seriousness of the false accusation that he has made.

Nor was I, sorry if I was a little ambiguous, just relating something along similar lines to what's being discussed. Unsubstantiated allegations such as this are very ordinary.
