    At least you've played one.......

no worries. The point is we should have a Top 5 without a shadow of a doubt.

4 is plenty in a ten team competition.

Half the teams in the finals is ridiculous.

The AFL realise it is stupid having half the teams in the finals. They only do it for commercial and revenue raising reasons. The SFL doesnt have those concerns.

The fact that Rafters and I are the only ones on this board with any common sense wont come as a shock to anyone.

This place is the only group of people in Australia where the average intelligence is less than that of the employees of the NSWAFL.

      That is all.

Here's Humphrey playing devil's advocate again. Do you wait until you see what the majority wants before you form your opinions?

            No

If I agree with something I say nothing.

I only post when I disagree with others. You will find that my opinions usually turn out to be correct.

                  The most ridiculous post yet.

I could not name one competition in Victoria that has ten teams and only has a top 4. The top 4 provides no benefit for the top team and a top 5 rewards the top 3 teams and makes for a basic finals series.

SO you reckon that the AFL think their final 8 is stupid- That was the silliest call i have read on this website. Unless your name is Andrew i cant even comprehend that

Its not about revenue its about providing teams, players and supporters the opportunity to participate in why we play the game.

Get out of the 80's and dont be afraid to change for the better of the competition

What AFL team has won the premiership from 8th or even 7th place?

Or 6th. But that's not the point outside the AFL.

As GoEagles said, having a Top 5 gives more players a chance to play in the finals, and as such, more incentive to play the game in the first place.

Who's talking about 6th, 7th, 8th. All we want is a top 5 in a 10 team comp which is the norm. in the rest of Australia.

The top half of the AFL make the finals, as far I can see 6, 7 and 8 are space fillers to get people through the gates.

The same goes for the SFL.

You want the the top half of the comp make to the finals. Realistically, only the top 3 are going to be competitive.

Did Campbelltown deserve to make the finals last year finishing 5th in a 9 team comp? Would they have had a realistic chance at beating East Coast or Penno?

With no disrepect to Campbelltown - No they didn't have a realistic chance.

Why raise the hopes of a couple of teams when they're not going to make it? Extend the season by a couple of rounds if you want more games.

If the top 5 are all capable of beating each other on the day then, great bring on the top 5 but given the current state of the comp it's not worth it.

It's too lop sided at the moment.

I have to disagree anchors as i feel that in finals football, any side can turn up to play good footy while another side can sit back and choke....anything can happen...

You seem to forget that Campbelltown led East Coast for three and a half quarters the last time they played and lost to both by only 14 and 13 points in the second half of the year.

And you didn't seem to notice that I said the AFL's situation is totally different and can't be taken into account.
