His judgement is still slightly clouded though. Campbelltown represents the South West Region to combine that with the North West Region essentially leaves East Coast with 50% of the Sydney Metro region. I would think 6 teams including Wollongong would be more likely especially given the improvements made to Dalton. I agree however by far the most constuctive thing I have read from Rooboy.

I like the idea though and definitely reckon it should be given the go-ahead, but I don't know how many blokes across Sydney will be keen on the additional travel to and from training and games. But still anything which raises the bar so we don't have fat useless pr*cks playing in our comp anymore.... Poor LL may need to get on the treadmill...

The idea of a state-based club comp isn't new, and has been floated before. Troy Garner was a big fan of the concept, and it was discussed on this board at length a few years ago.
Unfortunately the issues that killed it were club identity and the travel factor. For example, I couldn't see Pennant Hills willingly becoming North Shore's feeder club. As well, the time and cost factor involved with driving to Canberra every second week would be prohibitive.

I wouldn't be keen on the idea of a state league as such; but at the time I liked the idea of a knockout cup involving Sydney, Canberra and other leagues.
Or alternatively, maybe something like a NSW Champions League, where clubs would still compete in their own competition but after a successful season would qualify to also play in the state comp - they'd only have to travel a couple of times a year, but get to experience a more elite competition while keeping their identity and local rivalries intact.

Dispense with the club theme. Let the good players be involved with good club management and aspire to bigger highs.

This is a football matter where individual clubs have no say.

Also the unprofessional clubs like C/Town & Penno won't lose on this deal as they can keep the name, jumper, history etc in the lower grades.

With the new AFL ground set for completion in 2008 (its off the M7 @ Blacktown 2.5 hours to & from Canberra), travelling won't be an issue. It would take NShore 2 hours to Wollongong.
