Hope we're all lookin forward to season 2003!

On another thread there is a discussion of highest scores. It's incomplete, but here it is below. If people have more update scores then email the good people at footypedia (a great football resource) [email protected]

That's a goal a minute, if you take out time-on! Plenty of exercise for one Goal Umpie, and an easy day for the other (lucky they swap ends!!)

The opposing FB msut have been exhausted - but would have had great kicking stats - but probably lots of clangers too

I've posted this already on another forum, but these came from a Footy Record I found from the 2000 SAFL prelim final:

In round 18 2000, Sydney Redbacks 31.26 (212) d Western Suburbs 5.6 (36) under lights at North Sydney Oval (I was there).
The Redbacks did some real floggings, especially early in the season. But the last round was the only time they brought up the 200 - their next highest score being their 29.18 (192) to 10.10 (70) defeat of St George at the SCG in round 3.

The Redbacks finished as minor premiers in 2000, but didn't compete in the finals. Pennant Hills won the grand final that year, defeating North Shore in the grand final.

A couple of big scores in the SFA in 2000:
Round 8 - Macquarie Uni 38.28 (256) d Hawkesbury 0.1 (1)
Round 17 - Macquarie Uni 37.28 (250) d Hawkesbury 3.3 (21)
Round 15 - Macquarie Uni 35.25 (235) d UNSW-ES 3.4 (22)

I am not sure of the actual stats, but I know that there are a lot more higher score than this.
In the Black Diamond and the CCAFL.

I know the highest score in that league is around 400ish. And theere have been a heap of scores in the 200's and a few in the 300's too.

St George beat Newtown 350 ODD TO 7 in 1985(i think). It was the last time the mighty Newtown Angels played.

Hi Phil and best of luck to you and the Katoomba-Lithgow Mountain Lions in the CWAFL. Also it is good to see some old Rams players playing for you (Davin Stritch and Benny Howard).

The Penrith Rams scored a fairly hefty win in 1986 at Sales PArk Luddenham.

The scores were

Penrith: 62.22.394
Camden: 4.3.27

I think it was basically decided that since the redbacks were expected to dominate the comp (access to highly trained (?!) Swans players etc), it wasn't fair for them to compete in the finals.

fair enough. bet the regular players (non-swans based) were a bit peeved.

Hey phil, when i was playing for Nelson Bay we scored a couple of times in excess of 50 goals, especially against Muswelbrook and after i left i know they had some huge scores so you may want to check with the Newcastle league as to their high scores

A couple of reasons. Firstly top-up players weren't available, and also because the SCG as a playing venue wasn't available either.
The Redbacks in that first season played all their games at the SCG or North Sydney Oval, except for one game at Campbelltown. They didn't play at the other suburban grounds - although by the next year, with a selection of reserves players going to Port Melbourne, the Redbacks then started playing at the other SAFL grounds.

George Crawford's Artifacts in the Daily Mirror on August 22, 1984 listed the goannas score a NSW record at the time. he also wrote that the Australian record score was 412 by Coburg against Caufield in a VFA match back in 1921
