Campbelltown & Camden To Team Up

I was wondering if KC or anyone could confirm a whisper that Camden will leave the South Coast AFL and play 1st division in sydney next year in a partnership with Campbelltown.

And if this is the case what would peoples thoughts be on this happening?

I can see this as a positive development provided that Camden are genuinely looked after rather thaan just plundered for their decent players

With their strong juiniors this combo should surely look at long-term fielding 5-6 senior teams with a strong career path for players.

If done correctly this could be a true super club for the game in Sydney!

Should be good, gives them a second dip at Sydney after 10 or more years in the Leisure/South Coast League. I'm sure Pete Free had plenty to do with it, after playing there a few years back. Good luck to em i say, it wouldnt have been allowed by the league last year or the year before, so good signs. A shame Katoomba-Lithgow weren't given the same opportunity(but then again, not many clubs of any div/league close to them)

It would appear that Camden need all the help they can get. Winning only two games and forfeiting 3 times to other teams in first grade and forfeiting nearly every game in reserve grade is hardly a good recomendation for first division in Sydney. It would alleviate the travel concerns for some players. May be a good move.

          Pekay,

I notice on the Sydney AFL website that the Jets are advertising for a new coach. Are you stepping aside or this standard club policy? I am not trying to be a smart ar$e just wondering what the story is as I know some clubs have the same policy.

Byran, Pete had to apply for the posistion last time so I cant imagine that it would be any different there this year.

Yeah, as i said I wasn't trying to be smart ar$e. It just seems strange that clubs do this. I believe it underminds the senior coaches position in that he is basically being told reapply and you should get it unless we find someone better. I have no doubt Pekay is the man but I believe the club should come out and say "we are happy with him and want to keep him". That's only my opinion.

That is my point Gun Slinger, Penno won the flag and still advertised it. Surely (even though their coach knows about 6 opposition players in the comp) that (a premiership) should entitle him at least another year at the club.

My reports are he has done a great job with the list he has. I am the first to stir up a few of the peanuts that frequent this site including Pekay, but the reports comming out of Bensons are the Jets will improve over the next couple of years.

PK, I personally do not know you but have heard how you spread the word of AFL to the greater community, well done. As for the other half wits, maybe they go to bed with the light on like a certain SFL coach

Most likely. Gutless unsubstantiated comments with no identification as to who they come from.......

Anyway, If Campbelltown and Camden can come to some sort of arrangement that would be great for footy. Anywhere a new club can get a leg up into the competition is a bonus, and if any restructure comes through in time for next year that will be even better for the likes of Camden, South-West Sydney, the Jets, Penrith, Willoughby, Westbrook - hell, maybe even Katoomba-Lithgow or St Clair.
To those working on this arrangement, the best of luck to you - it's obvious you've got the future of footy at heart.

The sooner First Division can get back to ten clubs the better.

Hopefully South West can come back next year, and in my view, Sydney Uni and UNSW who both have two teams in Div 2 should also be fielding those sides in Div 1 instead. If Camden want to do something with Campbelltown, all the better.

As for Pekay, he's done a great job at the Jets to get them back to where they are now, certainly the Penrith boys appreciated the fact that he had the good grace to come over and address them after the game on Saturday, given the long season both clubs have had.

Says a lot about the quality of the bloke I would have thought.

And 2 other clubs are talking also. It's not universally known but it could surprise some of the more studious types around the waterside workers. Now that might SPOIL another competition that people in high spots give SFA for.
