I seem to recall it happened many years ago at Waverley, back when they used to play the midweek night series. But I wasn't there, and I've never seen a game called off because of sprinklers.
Although I have seen a game stopped early - I was there in 1996 when bad light stopped play in the first day of the Essendon v St Kilda game, with stumps drawn an hour later. It's the only time I've ever left an AFL game before the final siren - because the final siren was a few days later, and I had to be back in Sydney by then.
There was a game a couple of years ago in Sydney AFL that had to be called off early in the last quarter because they couldn't get the lights at Henson to work - I wasn't at that game, but I think East Coast Eagles might have been in it. And there was that night at Henson this year when I arrived at the ground to discover it in darkness and no play took place that night.

There have been games called off early at Gore Hill because of helicopters landing on the ground so that patients could be delivered to RNS Hospital.
