Being The Anzac weekend and proposed game for friday on Anzac day was a great idea. Until its been changed due to weather, i would imagine some people would be insulted by that, as they did not stop fighting in the war because it rained or bad weather. Nor should the game be changed. Any other weekend maybe Any one else's opinion..

I don't know what shape Drummoyne's in at the moment, but it's unfortunate that they can't play on Anzac Day. It would have been a great promotion for Balmain and a good way for Sydney footy to remember those who fought for our country.
Unfortunately in our league we get grounds closed far too often. It's not the league's fault, but we're at the mercy of local councils who tend to be a bit too quick to close off the grounds.

Maybe its time we got some sports minded people on these bloody councils instead of starchy suits with no clear link to reality."It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

pretty poor
I think that the cancellation of the anzac day game is poor and i agree with the rooster here, anywhere else in the country and they would ahve played footy. unfortunately the councils or those in charge of the grounds dont understand that football, no matter what code, is a WINTER sport and should be played no matter the conditions.poor groundsman might have a little work to do if they play. pretty sad really. If somebody says to you, "Can I ask you a question?"....isn't it a little too late?Comment

BeeEmmAre wont like me saying this, but i think the main (or one of)factor is cricket, precious cricket clubs wont want their turf wickets destroyed by footy boots. We have some of the best facilities for cricket/footy in Sydney and during winter we continually have to put up with cricket pitches being roped off, why even last week in our local derby, we couldn't get onto Bensons No 2, which is only Hawkesbury's second best turf wicket. Lucky for us we have a great new ground just next to our existing ground that we used, saving our game being transferred to Greygums.
With the AFLs "warchest" near overflow, perhaps the powers-that-be need to invest in land for FOOTBALL ONLY as i can envisage Purser Oval and the Blacktown facility being closed at some stages to maintain the state league cricket pitches. Fingers crossed i'm wrong on that.Comment

You're wrong and you're absolutely right.
I've got no problem with you saying that as I agree completely.
I am a cricket player and love the game, but this is football season, not cricket, and they don't need their pitches for five months.
There is no, repeat no, excuse for cancelling football games."It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

Sure they need to do a lot more with a lot more of that warchest but they are doing a lot more now than ever before.

what doesnt make sense is that games like this weekend and revious years have been cancelled or postponed and yet the grand final 2 years ago was ridiculas both weather and condition of henson park. And to to it off past 2 days have been great days for football....Comment

I guess the decision on the grounds had to be made on Thursday before the public holiday, but in hindsight the decision to close some of the grounds looked hasty. Absolutely beautiful weather today, and some of the closed grounds would have been playable after all.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the surface at Monarch today - yet again, when other grounds are closed, it holds up extremely well. At least the league can always count on Monarch to stay open.
And a very impressive performance by Sydney Uni - looks like the Students are the real deal this year.

Saw the photo, still don't care. It's football, it's a winter sport, you take what you are given regardless of how good or bad it might be. I believe the Black Diamond Grand Final two years ago was played in similar conditions to that."It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

I suspect that pic of Gore Hill was PhotoShopped.
When Gore Hill gets flooded, it's at the hospital end - there are plenty of water leaks, broken gutters etc in the hospital, and that water runs off through the car park and down the brickpit onto the northern end. But if the southern end was that flooded, there's nothing to stop it running off onto the highway which would have closed it - but the Pacific Highway wasn't closed.
The surface at Gore Hill can often be a worry, but there's no way it could have been like that last week.
