The Winners and Losers from the Weekend

Well what a big weekend in footy. I was wondering peoples thoughts on who got the most out of the weekend and who lost the most. I think in terms of winners Penno and Wests had great results. Easts and the Dockers had confidence boosting wins and St George showed they may be the sleeping giants. The losers, were do you start? Wollongong and North Shore would be shattered with the result. Really bad losses for them. I think Uni need to decide whether they are contenders or pretenders. East Coast (despite Go Eagles uninformed comments) are in real trouble. I didn't think they were finals chances but if ever they were going to beat P. Hills this was surely the weekend. I don't think the final 5 will change all year. I would be interested to hear peoples thoughts without turning the thread into a chance to bash a club you don't like1

    The winners -
UNSW-ES - Top of the ladder with a thumping win, played some great football.
Balmain - It's been a long time coming, but they've kept trying and kept perservering; good luck to them.
Wests - Showed a lot of character when after leading all day and falling behind in time-on in the last to get the last 2 goals for a great upset in front of a very noisy crowd.

    The losers -
North Shore - The mighty have fallen, it's been a long time since the reigning premiers have been bottom of the ladder.
East Coast - With Penno having so many players out, this was their chance. Still a long way to go this season, it's too early to write them off yet, but they would have been hoping for a win on Saturday.

UNSW flexed their muscles this weekend with a comprehensive victory i dont think many saw coming, but im sure NS will bounce back. Good to see balmain getting up for their first win as the dockers. I dont think ECE are in deep trouble at all, they have had their ups and downs this year but both sides had players out, it didnt all go one way and it would be a great match to see both teams at full strength. st george are always going to be there with another win, and with wests getting up over syd uni suggests they are on the improve.
If somebody says to you, "Can I ask you a question?"....isn't it a little too late?

I noticed that big Maurice Goolagong kicked 4 for St George in his first game. Nice pick up for St George with Chris Gordon, who also received BOG points. Maurice is prolific goal kicker that they even named the goal kicking award in the BDAFL after him. So much for retirement Maurice! A big loss for the BDAFL as well as both these players would more than lilely be in the rep squad.

Apparently Gordon was named in the BDAFL squad without even playing a game for them this year and whilst serving a suspension.

i havent been to an SFL game at Olds park for years , (since st george were the saints and wore red and white ) and i havent been to an sfl game since the st george /norths grand final a few years ago.
anyway i found myself in the neighbourhood so i dropped in to have a look at saints v campbelltown . i ended up staying at the game until 3/4time.
it wasnt the most exciting game i have ever been to. saints were a class above campbelltown and were beating them easy when i left.
the big fella at full forward for the crows, i presume was goolagong. he is one big man. he must be around 130kgs plus. but took a great one handed mark in the 1st quarter and apparently ended up with 4 goals

Goolagong is one talented bloke, we had a footy trip to Newy for a grand final about 03/04, Terrigal played Cardiff for memory, and he was unstoppable, i think the thing about him is, players who don't know him dont give hom the respect he deserves, think he'll be an easy beat...
He's kicked more goals in his BDAFL career than any of us would dream about.
As a fullback, i'd love AND hate to play on him. Glad to see him playing in Sydney now, will endeavour to get out and watch him.
