Sydney AFL Team of the Year 2008

Seem's like a pretty good thread to get a few opinions out and open to discussion. I picked my side according to the requirements of the Sydney AFL website (which I think makes it to easy to pick midfielders):

B: Chrisfield (PH) Wason (NS) Frail (WS)
HB: Donahue (StG) Richardson (PH) Jarjoura (Easts)
C: Carey (PH) Collett (Easts) Vlatko (ECE)
HF: Lee (Syd Uni) Withers (WS) Pryor (NS)
F: Rampe (Easts) Abbott (Easts) Egan (Syd Uni)
Foll: Dixon (Balm) Lees (C'Town) McConnichie (W'Gong)

Coaches: (Co Coaches) Mudge (Easts) & Tognolini (St George)
Umpire: Who cares? But to avoid tears, Damien Anderson

Comments: I picked this side a little for balance as well, hence the tough decision to leave Dugmore out for Rampe. I think the leagues decision to pick two midfielders to play in the forward line is pretty poor. Eurall has had a good year but couldn't get a look in in my side. I was a little weak in picking a coach but no one would have thought Easts would be as high as they are and I think even though many question Toggs he has got great results again when no one thought he would. I would also make Donahue captain.

    Where's the Luff?

    Amazing.

Like nearly all SFL umpires and Swans Supporters out there, Troy Luff is certainly one of my favourite players in the SFL, actually a very close 2nd behind Kefalas.

I am amazed how Luff hasn't been nominated on the SFL website.

Nobby O'Brien is certainly in my eyes another key ommission...Weird.

The Duck - What about Brad Ure?????????????????? Discrimination against 'happy' footballers cant be tolerated in this league....

Seriously though surely Luke Stanford deserves a spot in this team?? Vlatko to ruck rover, Stanford to the wing and to the pine with Lees and u would have it pretty much spot on

Sorry GoEagles to offend you but I haven't seen enough good games from Brad Ure for him to warrant a nomination for this team. Stanford would be in this side if he could kick a bit better. Lees is in the best form I have seen in his career and will be a monty to get in the Sydney AFL's side. The only bloke I think is unlucky on what I have seen is Troy Luff. The times I have seen him play this year he has looked pretty good. Plus Alex Lee would want him in so he could take another hanger over him!

From the team i posted, id take out mcconnochie and replace him with c.lees.
I reckon it has been the year of the quicks up forward and out wide, and the quarterbacks of sides across half back and the middle. Alex Lee, Egan and Rogers have kicked over 150 goals between them. all 3 are known match turners. Abbott and Dugmore are genuine targets (not big but quick off the mark and strong) in good sides and both are superb kicks for goal, and have nearly the same amount of goals between them. Richardson, Donohue, Wason, Jarjoura, Collett and Lees work as the quarterbacks of sides, wings in Carey (phelan favourite), Stanford and in and unders Pryor, Skuse provide the drive forward.
