    Rep Football

With rep football around the corner, I think the selectors have a big job this year. I've taken the liberty to name a side and wait for it to be pulled to pieces by the clinical RWO experts.

    B: S Ryan(EC) C Wells(WG) J Blums(BAL)
    HB: D Bowles(EC) L Shepherd(PH) S Hudson(WS)
    C: B Mankarious(SU) D Watkins(WS) M Beardsly(EASTS)
    HF: A Richardson(PH) M Withers(WS) A McConnochie(WG)
    F: B Abbott(EASTS) G Seebeck(EC) R Love(CTOWN)
    Ruck: E Shaw(EASTS) J Vlatko (EC) D Donohue(STG)

    Int: B Coles(SU) S Kershaw(CTOWN) A Crisfield(PH)

    Since you invited criticism...

I don't neccesarily disagree with any of the selections, I haven't seen enough of the competition to suggest that any of those player don't deserve a spot, however I hope that unlike previous years, the selectors don't pick blokes based on reputation. As an example, going from the stats available on the Syd AFL website, Donohue has played 6 games this year and has been named in their best on only 2 occasions and ended one match unable to walk because of a hamstring injury. Hudson has played only 3 games and been named only once in the best. Does someone who has played only three games warrant a spot? I'm not having a crack at these two players, I regard them very highly among the competition, but I just hope the selectors cast their eyes beyond reputation.

From what I saw on Saturday Pace, I reckon Owen Love would have to be right up there.

Yeah def, i just saw it was R Love not O Love. He can def play, has taken a couple of weeks to get his confidence but is a quality player for sure. They both kick the ball 60 plus without trying. BJ Mcallister is starting to hit hes straps too now hes fully fit and wouldnt look out of place either

Adroit, what about Keiren Wright? His form this year has been pretty good. Agree with O Love, he goes alright.

Hope the Love boys perform better on the field than they do at the tribunal

Mr Duck, I'm sure people from each club could pick a side different to the one picked claiming that there's is better for varing reasons. The proof will be in the next few weeks when a squad will be announced.

Junior, plenty of sides have been picked in the past based on reputation alone and I would tend to think that going forward the same will apply. Selectors will have favorites and will push to have them named based on previous appearances but I do agree with your comment.

Formidable team, however would have Janis at CHB as I believe he is the best CHB in the comp at the moment.

Question who should capt? Think it should be Withers or Donohue. Maybe Blums if they want a longterm capt.

I forgot to add (c) next to A Richardson when picking the side.

Vlatko from EastCoast would have to be in the running for the (C)??

                        At worst (VC)???

Yes i would say that would be the case. He is the incumbant isnt he, and hes club has also won a couple of premierships under his guidance. If not either declan or Huddo have the runs on the board also and would be next in line i would have thought

Richo is a no brainer for me, has the runs on the board and is proven at this level. I would think it would be out of Dec and Vlatko for the vice, if not joint vice captains. For the first time I agree with cheese ball, Blums is one of the form backmen of the comp. If they are picking the side on form he should be a fair chance of getting a run. Not quite sure if he captain material at this stage of his career.

Rep game is pretty late this year (July 25?) ... so still plenty of time for injuries & players to run in & out of form.

Also the International Rules match is going to be on again in October against the NSWGAA.
