I'm not having a go at ECE Junior, I'm taking the piss out of this forum. And as to what you said, I agree with you completely.

The amount of BS that goes through makes it almost embarassing to be a part of community footy in Sydney, especially as we're guests on a Swans Fan site.

A radio program to promote the local game would be fantastic, and a live match broadcast the icing on the cake.

2SSR did an AFL show on Saturday mornings including content about St George and the Sharks. It aired in 2007 and 2008. A former St George player was one of the comperes. It may be worth checking with the station if you want more info.

DLH had it right, 2SER, 107.3 on your FM dial every saturday morning with Simon Kelly & Mick Byrne. However, there was more than that. 2NBC 90.1 had "The Meyer Stand" with Helen Meyer & Craig Davis on Thursday nights for an hour, and Eastside Radio 89.7FM with its SFL talk on saturday mornings as well. More than I remembered!
          From SFL Record, May 98.
As I tend to do at times, have a browse through, that week saw Jason Makin play his 100th for Penriff, Wests were thumped by Balmain,Norths & Penno at the head of the SFL while the SFA Ladder had Mac Uni and Sydney Uni on top with 6 wins apiece, and Ben Physick kicked 4 in a loss to Penno. That would've been Fizza's 2nd year in Seniors, pretty good effort to still be playing, although he is only 30.
          Geez I'm a nerd.

Spot on, I was confusing 2SER with the frequency for 2NBC.

I won a Swans membership on Helen's show in the mid 90's because I knew that Luffy came from Nelson Bay. Not sure I could ever bring myself to use it more than a couple of times though.

Interesting that Makes played his 100th back in '98 considering that he finally managed his 200th in Round 17 this year.

Only took the big fella 11 years.

Hey guys , just thought I would bring you up to speed on developments .

To put it bluntly , the AFL are not at all interested in supporting the concept . They obviously do not understand the value that Community Radio & Digital Radio serve to sports .

They want to grow a 2nd Sydney based AFL side , and in my eyes the only way that will happen is from the grassroots . For a 2nd team to be successful , AFL has to become more popular in NSW.

Just because there is a massive growth area , which apparently Blacktown area will become , it doesnt automatically mean that those people will choose AFL.

Look at Gold Coast A-League , the titans sell-out every week ( 22,500 average) whilst Gold Coast United averaged 3,500.

Selling shows to radio stations is easy . If its sponsored and they are making their money. Selling this show to the general public is easy also , we know the fans are their.
Its time the Sydney AFL media coverage was more than simply scores in the monday paper , hidden amongst other results .

digital sports do a great job with there coverage , but the program needs more exposure , not just highlights.....i think the game deserves more.

Doesnt Gus Seebeck have something to do with One HD ??? Surely they could put the coverage on instead of some ridiculous paintball or nascar 24/7 show ( which i have seen played 3 times in last month & its for the Daytona race that has already happened) .

I hold grave fears for GWS based on a number of decisions that are being made ... just look at the original proposals for the team name!? ... "Pride", "Stallions" ... WHATTHE...?

Someone got paid to come up with that rubbish! ... seriously, if they did not have the Swans to run off they would have nothing!

Having worked in the radio and tv industries, I can tell you it's near impossible to get airtime for nix. One HD wouldn't touch it with a barge pole....they're national and would be more likely to do another AFL show or a very late night VFL wrap-up before Sydney footy got a look-in! Community radio, as mentioned, would need sponsorship. One option could be Radio For The Print Handicapped. Before you laugh...my old man, an ex-race caller, used to host a Harness Racing show on 5RPH. Maybe a more realistic option would be a weekly podcast, maybe in video form. Host it on an appropriate AFL site, advertise it to all the clubs in the record and by word of mouth. If it takes off, then you'd have a basis to approach the radio stations.

Sorry C Gull you cant come on here with sensible ideas that would truly grow the game at a local level. I believe we should leave that for the greatman PK, remember he did bring us the cricket match against opposition SAfl club. A true genius a say. BTW seeing how Oscar has a real sense of community & a love for the SAFL (remember the WCE & ECE partnership of which he created was borne out of the love for the SAFL) maybe instead of paying truckloads for players, maybe he could fund the show or better still Ece could fund it.
