Saw that the GWS Franchise are leaning towards the Warriors moniker.

Not a fan of it myself but wonder if they know that a local team already has that "nickname" albeit one imposed on them by their Uni?

If I was on the committee for coming up with a moniker then I would be quite strong that it should have an Australian affiliation & fairly unique ... Kookas v Warriors I know what I would pick ... also you need a mascot that it family friendly that the kids will love to hug & have put up on their wall. I hate "American-ised" monikers. Also we already have a Western Warriors - they play cricket.

Koalas is a name that hasn't been used by many clubs around the country ... aboriginal for "no drink" ... "watch them come out to play at night" ... an Aussie icon & guaranteed to get sales of merchandise from tourists if marketed correctly with the word Sydney ...

But what would I know.

Apparently They have approached Mac Uni for permission and remuneration talks. They have said they wish to differ slightly from the "McWarriors with fries" to the "road Warriors" . A slight adjustment for their target demagraphic.
