Will make marginal difference on the field and absolutely no difference to the club's development. If recruiting Benny Boy's former partner in crime is their idea of building a new club culture then they are even more deluded than we thought.
What a bunch of desperados...... -
So Mug Punter.....I am assuming you know the exact story?? I mean, you are so well versed in everything else that seems to be going on in footy in Syd.
Have you actually spoken to anyone at Balmain about what they are trying to achieve? Or do you just sit on a forum, hiding behind some fake name (yes, I see the irony in me posting under another name) taking pot shots at people and clubs??
I suggest, instead of slamming Balmain whenever you can, how about you grow some, go down to the next Balmain game, make yourself known to one of the coaches or board members and listen to what they have to say. I am sure they will be more than happy to spend some time with you, outlining what they are trying to achieve and field any questions you may have.
So how about it Mug Punter?? Or does that seem to0 fair and reasonable for you??
Or maybe just continue to coward behind your words and in a year or two, see how Balmain are travelling then??Comment

Are you guys crazy???? Balmain will have the best mid-field in the comp, no question. Tim Schmidt got 62 touches in a game in the Canberra league a year or so ago. 62 touches!!! Thats more than some blokes get in 6 games!! His brother played in the SANFL....so a much better comp than SFL, so he will be a gun. Saddington at CHF....the best CHF in the comp BY A MILE. They have a new FF who played A grade ammo's, again a much better standard than SFL and was on the Collingoowd rookie list for awhile. They have also picked up another couple gun A Grade ammo players from Melb who will kill it. Having played A Grad Ammo's, the Ammo premiership team would win this comp by 6 to 7 goals. The best players in each team in Syd would be good A Grade players, but its the depth. So players 8 to 22 would not get a run in A Grade. Then add in Janis Blums, one of the best CHB in the comp, if not the best....so all of a sudden the spine looks better than anyones in the comp with the best mid-field going around...oh and throw in a little know player named Nic Fosdike!
My mate who is at Balmain and involved in board, said that a lot of the younger players are really stepping up too. He also alluded to another gun joining the club.
End of the day, Balmain's top 8 or 9 players would be in any clubs top 10 or 11. No other team could genuinely say that. Sure their bottom 5 or 6 may not be regular 1st graders in an East Coast Eagles team, but to say you'd be suprised if they made the finals??
What will an opposition coach do in the mid-field?? Tag Schmidt? no player in Syd woudl be smart enough to do that. If they try, great, then you have his brother and Fosdike (my mate said he will play, just not every game) doing what they want. Then you have the best CHF in the comp who played in the VFL grand final last year. Saddington will kill it!! They will kick to him or the new FF (name elludes me) who again is a gun too....
Ball turns over and Balmain have Janis Blums at CHB and two new A Graders from Melb...oh and Sundquist!
I'm not saying they will win the flag, not at all....but to say they won't make the top 5 (I think its top 5) or more to the point, to say you'll be surprised if they do????
Some of you need to get off the "bagging Balmain" bandwagopn, put whatever baggage you have, behind you and actualy think about it.
Your conservative estimates were thrown off slightly?Comment

still more to come I hear .... rumour is they have a "handshake" agreement with Warwick Capper, subject to completion of the Helipad at Drummoyne Oval ... he will also be assisting with junior player development in the areas of grooming and public speaking.
... must be some others they are chasing ...?Comment

Talk about sour grapes Mug Punter. All you do is bag Balmain on this forum. Why are you the first to get a cheap kick in to a club that's trying to do the right thing and rebuild by signing quality players/coaches?
Cheer up and get over it.
Imagine he won't come cheap, another $15 - 20,000 up in smoke (or some other substance).....

Im not saying Balmain won;t still make the 5 in 2010. All I am saying is that they aren't focused on that timeframe.
My main gripe is people like MP slamming a club they know little about. All he/she does is take pot shots at Balmain and all I am asking is for he/she to actually go and find out whats going on, instead of hiding behind anonymity. But we all know he/she won't and will continue to make poorly informed comments.....Comment

No, I am not joking......go down to Balmain and introduce yourself to a coach and ask them about their direction and plan.
There is 17 rounds of footy to go boys. I don;t expect Balmain to be up and running until mid season due to their limited pre-season.
Again, lets be very clear in this, Balmain have a long-term plan.Comment

Balmain have had a long term plan for years.
I dont see why anyone has to introduce selves to coaches and see about the direction and plan, everyone will continue to make opinions and assumptions based on results and what they see, you arent the only club which people bag, all clubs to a degree cop it on here, some deserve it others maybe not but it is banter and opinion.
48, for years you guys have pumped selves up and talked the talk but backed nothing up, now and probably right there has been a small clean out yole hall etc.
The money is there from all accounts, but you need more than money, president is a good bloke, but is he strong enough for the egos of some there and to quieten down some in the club.
From reports too with the hiding you copped last week the culture hasnt changed much, supporters abuse still and results arent there (but it is only week one and it is a long season), nothing has changed, juniors havent seemed to develop, hopefully they do as it is important for all clubs to have strong juniors.
Bought some players, no results yet, they should come if they dont there is a issue, Talk of Barry and Fletcher now, Davis in and yellow carded first week (good culture) By all means buying some will help profile but you need to get it from the juniors and people who have been running around there for years as well:Comment

No Davis and no Saddo which is a huge loss this week. I actually thought both these guys played quite well last week in a poor team, they were pretty much the only avenue to goal.
I'd bracket Penno in the same group as Uni, maybe slightly ahead at this stage. Given that Penno beat the Blues by about 80 they should be about a 10 goal better team. Add in the fact that the Tigers will be weaker and are playing away from home and it really points to a 100 point win by the Blues.....Comment
