Here is the facts
I the president was internationally travelling on business until 9pm Friday evening. I on Saturday morning at 9am called the ground keepers at the UNI to make sure everything was right on the 2 ovals as required and in the draw. I was told then there was an issue due to over booking but they had emailed me an oversight on my behalf. Sorry for that. I then called all clubs involved along with coaching staff etc et.
We offered to play all games on the lower oval and Pernrith would have had the first 3 games from 12.30, 2.30 and 4.30. With Penno and MAC uni agreeing to move the div 1 game to 6.30pm. Penrith said they could not move the times as they were going to the swans. UTS had already decided to reschedule the Div game to the june weeekend.
MU Under 18s had 15 of MUAFC and 7 Penno players and the reason they were not on the sheets was the coaching staff had already realised they needed to do the permits for each game the 7 players from penno were the same from the previous week. Another over sight again we are sorry . The AFL was contacted and all was in place to have them done before the bounce of the ball. When Penrith could not move the easiest was the under 18s as we did not have the relevant transfers in place Thus moving the rd to one agreed by both parties.
We as a club like a lot of others rely on unpaid, time giving professionals whom most of all have fulltime highly strtessfull executive postions. And guess what i am one of them whom travels the globe and carries out busines for my company that pays me a salary each week to perfrom for them. I am soirry i could not call the AFL and others from Papua New Guinea and i made a mistake. I am now foming the timber etc for the burning at the stake of me as i had an over sight but did try and rectify in a very short time. We do have one of the best facilities in the league but there is also 28000 students that rely on the facility along with many outsdie high schools ect etc. Does your grounds have these issues.
If i am to resign can you all please tell th AFL that after you burn me at the stake you will then also tender my resignation as president of the club that is trying to get every player a game each week to its best ability.
We do not go on about how great we are or bag other clubs we just play footy and get on with what we can and cannot control. It would be good for a lot of others to do so as well.

How can the ground in question be over-booked? Surely that is not the fault of the footy club?
Who looks after the ground bookings and how did they allow the over-booking to occur in the first place?
It's not that hard to make sure that a booked ground doesn't get booked again is it?Comment

Even though its only ourselves, Masters and the juniors that use Rosedale we still have issues where whoever is responsible for the juniors draw doesnt look at the seniors draw (published months earlier) and schedules their games in direct conflict with ours.Comment

Big stuff up but at the end of day, @@@@@ happens. Apologise to opposition, find out why, make sure procedures in place to ensure no repeat, apologise again and get on with it mate. Been President of footy club and stuff ups happen. Good luck for the rest of season. BComment

Mate I think Lee already answered that.

Who oversees the ground bookings at Macquarie Uni, that's all I want to know - ie who allowed it to be double booked in the first place? The Sports Association?
There would surely only be the one central register of ground bookings, otherwise this sort of thing would be happening all the time.
Council grounds are a different situation as far as I am aware. They lease to a senior and/or junior club and then the fixturing isn't the council's concern.
By the way, I am not blaming the footy club here, all clubs run on volunteers. It just seems like they were lumbered with trying to fix a problem not of their making (ie a double-booking) at fairly short notice, which is where the problem arose.Comment

Lee, nobody wants to crucify you over the incident. It's being rather over dramatic talking about resignations and sacrificial offerings. I think you should have been a bit more informative in your statement though. Quoting that "both clubs agreed" is certainly not the case. Your communication was that you were forfeiting the match. The umpires scheduled to do the game even said that. The reason of having to get permits for players and being easier to transfer the game was never mentioned. The reason you stated was entirely different in my clear recollection. Happy to keep that private.
Again, it was a very unfortunate situation that was handled wrongly, IMO. We as a club have apologised to our players and family although we had no control over the matter. To have no-one from your club come up to us at the ground and offer any apology was disappointing. But it's now time to move on, so let's leave it at that.Comment

Sounds familiar to a few weeks ago when we tried to contact your club a number of times through email for a list of players and officials who didnt need to pay gate entry, only for you to come on here whinging about them having to pay after your club didnt respond as balmain did. Now Mac Uni also say they contacted your club but you come on here saying no-one new anything beforehand and wernt approached for an apology at the ground Pleeeease, maybe they thought you were already on your way to the swans
Pace, I think you should get your facts straight before pointing the finger. Check it out with your secretary, who I have known for some time before making accusations and get back to me.
An email was sent by Town to our coach and an "out of office" reply was returned as he was OS. A day or two later another one was sent which was forwarded to me to which I replied with a full list prior to the match. On the Sunday I received an email from your secretary apologising for missing my email. I am not one for posting emails on boards but will email it to you personally if you wish (yes, I kept all four of them). Instead of sniping, best to get your facts in order first, mate. We all stuff up sometimes, including myself and I will freely admit it when it happens and take the appropriate actionComment

I hardly think getting a list of who has to pay at the gate, is anyway comparable to 25 odd players driving half way across Sydney in the anticipation of a game only to be told it wasnt on because Mac Uni double booked the ground.
Penrith should be awarded the points and apologies should be made to the club.
Sorry Lee, but no one wants to hear your excuses only how it will be fixed so it doesnt happen again.Comment

Brings back fond memories of the time we knocked off Mac Uni in 2003 at Sheeran Oval. In their match report we were dubbed 'the punchline of Sydney Footy' and its stuck with me ever since. Pretty sure we can organise a days footy with the two grounds we have!Comment
-
And how many other organisations/sporting clubs/schools do you have to manage when scheduling your grounds?
Really, it was unfortunate but the apology has been made to Penrith and the situation is now past. I believe the pres will make sure it doesn't happen again.
Are we going to continue discussing this for the whole year?Comment

PS... I'm not trying to say what happened was acceptable but it's getting a bit over the top when people keep going on about it and lobbing grenades from their seats. Let the clubs it affected & the league sort it out and move forward.Comment
