Junkyard, Gambler & M.Punter seem to be in the know.
Rd 5 and looking at 2011?
Is that why Balmain are on 0 points as they have exceeded the salary cap?
Players/coaches/staff etc change each year for over 12years to produce the similar results whether on a $10 or $200k player budget???
Maybe Kippaanou or the raffle ticket seller dude should run the joint?
12 from the GF side of 2009....yet how many have they recruited??? Dugmore, Vladlko, Beardsley....to name a few and I dare say, those three are as good as any they have lost. That was a silly post Gambler as you were comparing numbers lost from one season to another, compared to injuries of a current list. Take 13 of ECE best players from their 2010 list......thats the only way you can compare to what I am saying.
Speaking of fact, Schmidt did did 62 touches in a game in the ACTFL......go and research it, its fact. Balmain have recruited a guy who was a gun full foward in the VFl.....go and research it. Balmain do have a bunch of blokes who played AFL.......go and research it. The issue they have is injury and depth and NO ONE at Balmain is hiding from that. You can't turn a wooden spoon team (2 in 3 years) around in 6 months.
People from Balmain are excited about 2011 and beyond.....Comment

Congrats to Dockers for their first win of the season, in their Ressies, beating a 2W-2L Manly side. Well done. For the sake of Sydney footy let's hope they sneak a few wins in both divisions this year. Seems Kyprianou is the man with 10 through the big sticks!!!Comment

Good to see and god knows all us lower div teams love beating Manly hey Nik - Well done dockers.Comment

It's not the first forfeit this year in that division either. Seems like there is still a way to go in growing the game at Under 18 level.Comment

Yet looking through the results on the Sydney AFL website it appears that they didn't manage to make the trek out to Penrith in the Under 18s.

Round 1 - bye
Round 2 - opponents forfeited
Round 3 - had a big win
Round 4 - postponed due to ground being double-booked
Round 5 - opponents forfeited
So we're a quarter of the way through the season and they've only stepped on the field for one competitive game.
I don't know what the feeling is among the young Penrith players, but I could imagine they're getting frustrated that, through no fault of their own, they're not getting to play games.

It's not often that one needs to feel sympathy for an undefeated top-of-the-table team; but Penrith in the Under 18s Challenge are in a strange situation.

The Challenge Cup is quickly becoming a joke as teams who have to travel more than 15kms for a game can only seem to get 8-10 players available....I'm wondering if the league could create one competition for the rest of the year because as it stands there are only ourselves, Moorebank, East Poach Eagles and Parramatta who are putting regular teams on the paddock....I also feel sorry for the 8-10 lads from the forfeiting teams who aren't getting a game eitherComment

Tubzy, there's a bye in both 18's comps ... the serious clubs should try and arrange a cross over "friendly" game when they have the bye.
... a little bit of arranging to be done, but 16 & 17 y.o.'s need to be on the park every week!
... and if one team only has 8 or 10, the other team should have numbers, grab some local u/16's and just mix them up and play 14 a side ... get them playing!!
NB: Just looked ahead and R 7 Penrith & St George have the bye ... I know St George have big numbers ...?Comment

Had about half the team play on the weekend (5 in Div 4 and 7 in Premier Cup for Town)
Very proud of the boys who have discussed things as a team and have stuck together. They all came to the ground on Saturday and helped out with match day dutiesComment

SHH, just passing on my thanks to the Penrith boys that transferred over on the weekend, with only about 25 eligible players, 3 of those playing 1st grade every week and 6 with medium to long term injuries,we would have been struggling to fill a side.
But with the co-operation of the league, our admin and the Penrith club,we managed to get 22 u18s a game of football on the weekend.Comment

Hopefully the team gets a better run from here, with the next month or so looking promising. And with the results in CC this year, anything could happen. Some truly strange results.Comment

Just a note on this one, the Junior leagues have a rule where if 16 yo's play more than 5 games at U18 level they must have played 10 games or more at the lower level for them to participate in finals. Particularly when games times clash this has resulted in Junior clubs not releasing players to play 18's to ensure they get their 10 games up. Some junior comps are only playing 15 minor round matches this year so with byes and potential injuries there is a lot of reluctance to release U16 players to play up.Comment
