Why the mid season Balmain to Uni exodus?

BALMAIN DOCKERS AFC UNI OF NSW/EASTERN SUBURBS Malcolm, Blake Approved 02/06/10 02/06/10
BALMAIN DOCKERS AFC UNI OF NSW/EASTERN SUBURBS Carle, Darren Approved 23/06/10 25/06/10
BALMAIN DOCKERS AFC SYDNEY UNIVERSITY Shaw, Dion Approved 24/06/10 24/06/10
BALMAIN DOCKERS AFC SYDNEY UNIVERSITY Oscar, Paul Approved 08/04/10 09/04/10
BALMAIN DOCKERS AFC SYDNEY UNIVERSITY Moller, Craig Approved 13/05/10 27/05/10
BALMAIN DOCKERS AFC SYDNEY UNIVERSITY Boyd, Jarryd Approved 27/05/10 27/05/10
BALMAIN DOCKERS AFC SYDNEY UNIVERSITY Adcock, Edward Approved 22/04/10 28/04/10

Club stalwarts and hard workers off the field Dion Shaw, Darren Carle and Jarryd Boyd are I have been told (but can't confirm it) 3 others who have played first grade this year are leaving.

This is really disappointing to learn and I would be interested to hear from Big Show or others from Balmain why it is happening.

Very interesting indeed. Expencted the usual money seekers to come and go easily, but for blokes like Shaw and Boyd who aren't from Sydney and have been with them for years, i.e. treated the club like family, to up and leave mid season is a strange one.

I want answers god damn it!

I suspect some of them are Balmain's Under 18s players, after the team withdrew. I guess Sydney Uni's the closest under 18s team for them to join. Don't know why the others would go with them, unless they were mentors to the younger players and wanted to keep that role even without an under 18s at Balmain.

A couple of those guys are lower grade players to my knowledge, not sure what the numbers are like in the twos at Balmain but why wouldn't you come to a club that has five teams where you can get a game most weeks?

Does anyone know if there is a cut off date to switch clubs? If so what date?

In response to the above these guys were forced out with two players in Boyd and Carle have both served the club over many years in Captaincy roles respectively in 18's and Reserves. With some 8 years of service from Carle being a reserve grade captain (5years) and coach (4years) as well as mentor, on/off field dedicated member and leader for the club. Boyd was a Rams player and Captain of the club making his first grade debut at 16yo a talented young footballer who is capable of anything with the right leadership and reinforcement. He was also the key to Balmain's under 18 future as the current coach of the Glebe Greyhounds U 16 team. A relationship that will be void as U16's will surely follow Boyd in the transition to Syd Uni.

This is a great loss to the club as the exodus is not as a result of New recruits or ex Swan and now Balmain coaches in Fosdike or Saddington. It is due to a lack of communication or honesty driven by two Bald idiots who are star struck and keen on jumping on the coat tails of these high profile recruits.

Reliably informed during a discussion on the weekend that 2 of the exodus were directly related to alcohol and drug culture of some within the club. I stress it was not the club that had the culture but some senior players.
