Welcome everyone to season 2011 - one that brings fresh changes and a new look to all grades. Good luck to all teams for the coming season, except of course those playing against the Nor-West Jets.
North Shore v Illawarra (Gore Hill Oval, Sat 2:10pm) by 40 points - The Lions have a new name and a new look team, while the Bombers have also made significant changes. Hard to see the home team not winning this.
Western Suburbs v St George (Picken Oval, Sat 2:30pm) by 5 points - The Pies have lost a fair whack of their quality players, while the Dragons' young brigade has a year of experience under its belts. Most would expect Wests to start favourites, and they will at home, but I think there's an upset in the making here.
UTS v UNSW-ES (Trumper Oval, Sat 2:10pm) by 22 points - the Bats have been the standout team in the lower grades for a number of years and will throw absolutely everything they have into proving they belong in Premier League. The Bulldogs have had numerous losses again and face an uphill battle this season.
Pennant Hills v Balmain (Macquarie University Oval, Sat 6:30pm) by 17 points - as someone else commented on this forum, the Demons have lost 28 players, and a team, in the off-season. They have made a habit of defying the odds in recent seasons, but it's time for the Dockers to deliver on their promise.
DIGITAL SPORTS FOXTEL AFL SYDNEY MATCH OF THE ROUND, FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 6.30pm ON MAIN EVENT CHANNEL 518 ----- East Coast Eagles v Sydney University (Bruce Purser Reserve, Sat 6:30pm) by 2 points - A Grand Final Replay and an absolute cracker to kick off the season. There is absolutely nothing that I can see to separate these two teams and I'm looking forward to a return match to remember. Eagles only because they're at home.
"It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.
