Gore Hill has been closed, just 2 hours before the first game was due to start there. Under 18s & Div 1 are off, Premier Division will be relocated to Bruce Purser. Trumper Park & Pioneers Park are also closed, Sydney Uni is Premier Division only.

@@@@ing outrageous that councils will pull a stunt like that at such short notice. Yes it rained last night, but we've had @@@@ all rain during the week, and if that's what it takes to close a ground then that's an absolute @@@@ing joke.

Never a truer word spoken on this forum. Disgrace.

Sydney footy is turning into a complete joke. My son's Under 8 & Under 10's soccer was still played this morning in the rain. Too many princesses in some council and other ivory towers.

When the next TV rights some up, watch out for Gomez and his mob of bandits buy all the AFL grounds in Sydney and run it properly.

A bit of foresight and common sense by the league would've been nice in fixturing us (NWJ) at 10am in Paddington when there was no 2pm game @ Trumper, considering the 90 odd minutes travel between areas. Same goes with ECE as well, they were the midday game, why not play at 12 and 2?
It was a mad scramble to stop players from travelling when confirmation filtered through from the league at 0755 this morning that Trumper was closed. The sooner we stop using cricket grounds for football the better.

I can still recall the regular absurdity of looking towards a sunny weekend after a bit of rain through the week and the council shutting down Gore Hill on a Saturday morning with no further correspondence to be entered into. Ridiculous.

Not that it would have made a difference to seniors of course, but I recall it was raised with the council "look your concern is damage to the grass, can we at least let the Auskickers run around 'cause even with boots on they don't weigh enough to rip it up" and all they gave was a "no, one in all in"- then you'd call the wet weather line and hear certain grounds in the council were open for "athletics only" or "for soccer only".
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

There was no Sydney AFL game scheduled for 2pm, however there was a Masters game scheduled. Not sure if this prevented a later game? Good idea though - they should probably factor these possibilities into the fixture if they are not going to 'stand up' to the councils...
In every game there is going to be a cross-road, and when you get to that cross-road you either step up, or you step down!

These Councils are this week making Sydney footy the laughing stock of Australia - or we would be if the other States knew what was going on.

Sydney Uni trust or whatever they're called are partly responsible.
Hard to criticise Waverley at this stage because was their first day of football, but hopefully they don't go the same way as the others.

On the other hand, congratulations to The Hills and Marrickville for allowing games to be moved onto their grounds at short notice. We need more of that!

This week's RWO wrap of the weekend's action is now online, featuring pics from the top of the table clash at Mahoney Park between Balmain and UNSW-ES.

Great report. No mention of a UNSW player cowardly king hitting former team mate and now Balmain player off the ball, leaving him with a busted jaw and in hospital awaiting surgery. As low as it gets!

                            From the Balmain website:
A top of the table clash against UNSW was a costly win for the rampaging Dockers, who lost both Jason Coulloupas and David Yeaomans to savage head blows. We wish them a speedy recovery down at Dockerland!!

Loopy was hit by a UNSW player in a cowardly act. Punched in the face without seeing it coming. Again, as low as it comes. Hopefully no UNSW player/official/supporter tries to justify the behavior on this forum.
