    Sydney Uni?

I was looking at the interview in this weeks footy program and the player profile. I can't for the life of me believe that Sydney Uni are taking credit for their junior development. Isn't half of their team Collingwood Scholarship holders who are made to play their. To claim credit for Tom Young is a bit rich considering he played all of his juniour footy at Wollondilly and 1 year 18's at Campbelltown. I think Wollondilly deserve the credit not Sydney Uni. They were gifted him along with every other talented player in Sydney who has been made to play there by a senior AFL Club. The sooner the farce of players being made to play there as scholarship holders ends the better the league will be. Maybe clubs such as Wollondilly, who by the way are a feeder club to Campbelltown, may then get some credit for producing talented kids. Struggling clubs such as Campbelltown may then enjoy some success in retaining talented players in what has been a hard couple of years.

Your post nearly ticked every box, you just left out the bit about kids being lured with bonus UAI points. Maybe next time!

Hard to bag a professonal organisation like SU for doing what they need to do, when there are clubs out there acting like "Keystone Cops", pretending to do the right thing, but really only paying "lip service" to developing their juniors ... pfft!

In fairness to Sydney Uni, they appear to be spreading the AFL gospel and to field 6 senior mens teams, under 18's and a womens team need to be congratulated and would appear to be well run. My only problem was the articles in this weeks program about them nurturing juniors when I would be surprised if they had 5 from their area.

Thank you Student for your unbiased view. At the end of the day Tom Young wasn't drafted because of the effort put into him for the 1 season he played at Sydney Uni. That in mind Wollondilly should be getting the wraps for nurturing him and teaching him in the juniors. Feel free to dispute any of what I have brought up in relation to the articles in the program this week. Out of interest how many of those under 18's kids live within the Newtown / Sydneham area.

Please unconfuseme with the clubs playing keystone cops and giving lip service.

I don't - hence that is why I asked. How many in their u18's are local products? Do share. I don't agree with the article refering to Tom Young as being one of their junior players when he is a Wollondilly junior and did play first grade at Campbelltown whilst an u'18 player there. Grow there own and promote their own, but don't claim to nurture a future AFL gun when he is from the Southern Highlands and informed by Collingwood to play at Sydney Uni with other Collingwood Scholarship holders such as young Yackamov. If Yackamov gets drafted let me guess he'll be in next years program.

I say good on Uni for developing Tom Young.

And congrats to the Giants on discovering Kevin Sheedy as a coach....

And accolades to Gold Coast for nurturing that future talented kid, Gary Ablett.

Not to mention how painful the game would have been....

                    Oldie but goodie!

Well done to former Penrith 18's player Michael Hartley on making his state debut against Vic Metro last weekend.

Special mention must be made of the great work done by Sydney Uni as he was absolutely useless before he got there.. : )

Pleasing to see Tom Young listed in the 'NEW' list for the Pies as (Wollondilly NSW/Sydney Uni) so they at least got marginal kudos.

Heard a rumour that Alex Lee is out for the season with a knee injury. Can you confirm or deny this The Student?
In every game there is going to be a cross-road, and when you get to that cross-road you either step up, or you step down!

Given he is now 60/1 for the Phelan, you might be around the money.

Heard something from last weekends match between Syd Uni & Wests Div.3 that a spectator (whom was allegedly a Wests premier div player) was cited for striking a Syd Uni player on the boundary (off the field) after both Eurell and the SU full back went both sent off. This cant be serious, if so the spectator should be rubbed out for 12 months, if not more.
