Whats happening in Sydney's South West

As for Camden, there has been similar problems to that Tassie has experienced at Campbelltown.

There was a couple of the more senior players retire and leave the club at the end of last season. Had a descent side on paper at the start of the year and had a couple of close games with strong Manly and St George teams when there 1's had a bye early on.

Been troubled by injury, players overseas and work commitments also. This combined with a pretty young list (captain is 21) and quiet a few players around the club that havent played much footy before this year was always going to be tough once injuries etc kicked in.

In saying that had a good win against a top of the table Balmain, been in winning positions against Auburn both times, not far away from Moorebank both times and a good showing against Norwest at home. Some of the results dont look fantastic but the oppositon has kicked a few late goals to make the score line look a bit worse than what it was.

The boys are under no illusions and are aware that it hasnt been a great season. If the group sticks together im sure they will be more competetive in years to come.

Good to hear some honest appraisals of what is happening at these clubs. Pretty sure most of the "Western" clubs have a long history of up's and downs. I know Penrith certainly has and I know that Moorebank almost folded a few years ago and to get to where they were last year was an outstanding achievement. Full credit to clubs that hang in there through the tough times.

I was pretty vocal about Town for a few years with their 18's. Getting flogged and forfeiting games in the last few years was never a building block for senior success in the future especially as any talented 18's player was promoted to first grade. The league helped them along this year with dropping them to Challenge and the results have been great for the club. Looks likely they will have the chance to get back to Premier Cup in 2012 (Hopefully not at Penrith's expense)

Pity about Brazill. Saw him play a couple of times and he was outstanding. Has he just stopped playing? That would be a big shame.

They went from a growing junior area to being forced into playing all over Western and North West Sydney and the players and parents voted with their feet! The junior clubs and competition out there has been decimated over the past 10 years or so, and all that the senior clubs have done is squabble. The result is a disproportionate number of senior teams to juniors. The AFL also has a lot to answer for as they presided over the evolving farce. Sure they have a few good kids coming through and will have good numbers in 18's from time to time, but based on facts it can't be sustained. C'town will remain a basket case whilst they concentrate on paying seniors rather than developing junior football. The NEAFL will only exacerbate the problem for them, as the better kids will not stay.

Quiet an interesting post here. If you had any real knowledge of what we do in terms of payments you wouldnt say this. We actually pay all of our senior players each week not just some like most clubs in sydney. We do this because of a great sponsor base and good fundraising that enables us to do so. At the end of the day we are not here to have millions of dollars in the bank so we choose to share the money we raise around to all the players not just a few mercenaries. Even our kids get looked after if they play seniors as a reward for their efforts and i would like you to explain how looking after all our players makes us a basket case. And by the way we also put money into junior development also through the Bob Prenter Foundation which has contributed for a number of years in helping Junior clubs as well as indivuals in need.

My mistake ... AFL is thriving in Campbelltown, as they pay their seniors equally and give money to junior development and the needy. Give yourself a pat on the back!

I notice this week that Campbelltown has listed a lot of new players this week against the poachers.

Seems like AFL in Tonga is starting to become popular with Izzy changing codes. He has a cousin (or three) playing for Town this week. Good luck to them in what looks to be a tough initiation.

At the past few International Cups, Victorian teams have been very involved and accomodating towards visiting players and helping them experience the sport in Australia.

Quite a few of the IC teams are already in town now - are there any other clubs in Sydney that have taken any IC teams/players in ?

Not a bad idea for teams with no chance of finals, though I'd question whether players who have been pushing to play 1s at Campbelltown would be happy with guys rocking up and straight into the 1s. I probably wouldn't be, but I don't need to worry about it.

As for IC players. We've been giving 8 of the Irish International squad a game each week. Can't wait for them to have a cracking tournament and take out the cup - apparently they are favourites. Will leave a massive gap in our roster though for the last 2 rounds

We had offered to help the British team with a training facility however they are staying in Blacktown so they felt Rosedale was a bit far - also tried to help with the Timor team given a number of our players have played with them over there but couldnt get one central location.

Nine players in Town's Premier team with surnames of an Island flavour. Great for the game indeed, our Pacific neighbours are tremendous athletes, an untapped resource until recently.
